Casa de Pasto Chaxoila — Restaurant in Vila Real

After two weeks touring Portugal, our dinner here was one of our favorite meals. While the menu could be called traditional, the restaurant was modern and the outdoor dining is unique and beautiful. You’re shaded under the boughs of grape vines which is really charming. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and relaxed. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. I had the house slow-cooked beef stew (highly recommended) and my wife had the vegetable grille. We both were happy with our choices, and we loved the goat cheese app that we shared. The wine list was short, but the local 18€ red I ordered was excellent. Bonus: If you are staying close by at a local inn and you walk in, order a bottle of wine. If you can’t finish it, they will let you take the bottle back with you. Really delicious little find in the vineyard region of Porto! The starter plate of various (slightly spicy!) cheese, olives and meats was delicious with perfectly crunchy crackers. Conheço este restaurante há uns anos. Infelizmente já não é o que era. Hoje estivemos 70 minutos à espera da nossa comida que acabámos por desistir e ir embora pois não tivemos uma única vez um esclarecimento ou o cuidado de nos informarem o motivo de tanta demora. Éramos apenas um casal e fomos os segundos clientes a chegar ao restaurante que entretanto foi enchendo e todos atendidos excepto nós. Não houve uma simpatia dos funcionários em se mostrarem sequer preocupados com o atraso. 70 minutos a ver os outros clientes a serem servidos…. E sem uma palavra ou simpatia pelo atraso. Fiquei decepcionada pela falta de profissionalismo do serviço . Quando questionamos ainda nos foi dito que deveríamos saber que um dos pratos demorava 40 minutos.
