Casa Arouquesa — Restaurant in Viseu

A mix of a bit "fine-dining" with the traditional Portuguese food, speacially from Arouca and their meats.

The tables and seats were quite confortable, the restaurant is quite big and has an outside and inside area. Although we stayed on the outside, it was closed with large panes of glass so it was basically converted to an inside space.

The entrees arrived quite early as well as the drinks, but we did have to ask again for some things because the waiter had forgotten.

The food was amazing, the Arouca style beef was cooked to perfection and the taste was on point and matching the best restaurants of this type of food. The fries that acompany this dish are quite interesting, not typical, but were homemade and crispy with the right amounts of salt.

For the dessert we were quite full but, in my opinion, the "biscuit cake" (bolo de bolacha) is mandatory to try. It's made following the traditional recipe with a butter and sugar cream, with Maria cookies dunked in espresso coffee, it reminded me of the ones my great-grandmother made.

Price was a bit on the expensive side but fair given the quality of the food and drinks they have.

The restaurant itself is amazing in terms of atmosphere and decor—definitely a place that catches your eye. However, the experience didn’t quite live up to the expectations. The service was average, nothing particularly memorable or attentive.

One of the biggest letdowns was the menu: it was extremely short, and to make matters worse, half of the items were sold out. For the price point, I was expecting something more refined or at least more options to choose from.

Fiz reserva pelo telefone, fui pressionada para dar uma hora de chegada limite porque a cozinha fechava às 14:30. Quando chegamos (2pax eu/ esposo) a mesa não estava pronta e fomos pedidos para esperar pela mesa ser posta (de que serve reserva/ pressa de horário!!! Pra nada), pedimos para saber se tinha costeletao para os dois … o emp de mesa disse que iria ser pesado (47€ kg) e verificar as possibilidades de peso para nos mostrar para escolhermos … veio só com uma peça dizendo sem balança ou referência da pesagem da peça dizendo que era 1,300/1,200kg e que só era aquilo e não havia mais peso …. Num tom forçoso ( é em Portugal ilegal não ter balança autenticada pela autoridade inspeção da câmera anualmente)

O meu esposo não gostou da actuação forçosa e de embuste a que nos criou na mesa e rejeitou. Não porque não queríamos mas porque não queremos ser ardilosamente postos numa situação de enganados!
