From time to time we were passing through Ramnicu valcea and several Romanians were recommending us Taverna D'Amici. Yesterday we decided to meet with friends on our way back from the mountains here. Car park was full of cars but we managed to park as someone was leaving. We got Ciolan, Ribs, Pizzas, Dorada fish, some kind of gulash/tocanita with mamaliguta and papanasi. Pizza was good, from the big oven in the open space . My colleagues were amazed with Ciolan and ribs. My girlfriend with Dorada fish liked it, however had not much spices on it - we think it could be more seasoned for better taste. With another friend we both had pizza D'Amici where my colleague thought that egg will be raw put on the pizza and baked with it - but as I was expecting it was already boiled egg on pizza. I think baking it with raw egg could be some option - it is for example in Georgian kitchen, but I liked it. Something what I am amazed and all friends I gave it to try was - papanasi! Ugh, huge portion with really good afine - blueberries jam, sour cream and awsome donuts - perfect dough with a bits of white cottage cheese inside - delicious. Overall - good value for money, tasty, good quality, quantity (if you are not very hungry I would even suggest depending of the order - to have it for two - for example Ciolan, papanasi). Decent prices for drinks and what my girlfriend value high - really good, proper coffee from the professional machine. For some of it please find attached pictures. We are definitely adding this place on our gastronomy map in Romania - and I can recommend it for the dishes - meat, pizzas, desserts and coffee as well as some drinks and place for meeting a friends or family. The staff speaks English and the service...
Read moreThe locals know & love the place already. But if you're a passing-by tourist, do yourself a favour and stop by! You will never regret it!
If you're a foreign tourist, this big tavern is a great place to eat Romanian country-side dishes, getting that real taste that cannot be easily found in many highly-promoted traditional restaurants. This is not about fancy cuisine with outlandish ingredients, is about good old-school cooking, a good meal "like my grandma' used to make"
The restaurant is open-space, tall and spatious, like a food factory, yet it seems welcoming and warm. Is not traditional and not modern, it just feels like a good (Romanian) place to eat. They also have a back terrace, but it was cold for us to stay there.
The menu is extremely large, for every taste, gender and age. They have varied food including many Romanian dishes, grilled meat, Italian pasta & pizza, but also... sea-food (!!).
The Romanian dishes we had were really good, great taste and good size portions. The soups were great with a real Romanian country-side taste. I also had an excelent rose-made lemonade; the desert (papanași) was very very tasty (the sour-cherry jam is the best choice for a great tasting experience)
Our waiter was prompt, polite and efficient, and we appreciated his service.
One downside for sophisticated customers is the not-so-classy staff. They are friendly and prompt, yet a bit noisy and overfamiliar. Remember you are in a local tavern not a high class restaurant in a big city
I highly recommend you to stop by, especially when travelling long distances. I will clearly choose this place than many others on the way from Timisoara, Sibiu...
Read moreI was very excited to eat at this restaurant as it was one of my good friend recommendations and also one of his favourite go-to restaurants in Râmnicu Vâlcea. On our way there I was so hyped I barely got the patience to arrive at the restaurant It was a beautiful place, very nicely decorated and I really liked the terrace. We waited for many good minutes for someone to take our order, but the place was a bit crowded, therefore understandable. We ordered seafood pasta and pizza. The food looked amazingly good and I started to eat the second the plate was on the table. Unfortunately the dish was so salty I had to take a sip or two from my lemonade after every 2-3 bites. I was really craving seafood so I thought a bit of salt won't kill me so I kept on eating. After a few more bites, I look a bit closer and I see a whole fly majestically cooked next to the shrimps. I took a second look and asked the other person if it's only my imagination or if that's really a fly. After solving the mystery and deciding it was really a fly, I called the waiter. He informed me very annoyed that he isn't taking care of our table and I have to wait for his colleague who disappeared right after he brought our lunch. Eventually our guy came and I showed him the fly. He apologised and asked me if he can replace my order but I refused to eat anything else. I actually feel sorry for my friend as he was a bit heartbroken after realising he'll not visit anymore one of his favourite...
