If you’re looking for an authentic Yemeni dining experience in Makkah, Yemeni Gate Traditional Restaurant is an absolute must-try! This place is always full of people — a clear sign that the food is truly delicious and loved by locals and visitors alike.
Their menu is impressive and offers a wide variety of traditional Yemeni dishes. You can enjoy different types of rice like Mandi, Kabsa, Madghout, and Mazbi, served with tender lamb or flavorful chicken. The meat is perfectly cooked, juicy, and infused with aromatic spices that take the taste to another level.
Besides the rice dishes, they also offer fresh salads, hearty soups, and classic starters like hummus and mutabbal. Their traditional breads — tameez, malawah, and roti — are freshly made and pair perfectly with every dish. For breakfast or lighter meals, they serve options like foul, liver, shakshouka (eggs with tomato), cream, honey, and cheese plates.
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it great for families and groups. Even though it’s always busy, the service is quick and efficient. Prices are very reasonable considering the generous portions and quality of the food.

Read moreI ordered for take away Saturday at 8am. There was a line, I waited a few mins. The restaurant had many people inside then from what I could see. I bought
Malawa bread It's nice, they serve it on a paper then put it in plastic so it's mostly not touching directly, stays hot long time and is soft until exposed to air. Nice quality.
Chicken fahsa /shredded Taste good but not spicy as I prefer from the ones I eat in jeddah.
Shakshoka Also good but not as spicy as jedda.
Meat muqalqal Taste good but not as spicy as I prefer from the ones I eat in jeddah (foul Al qarmoshi)
Meat fahsa /shredded Also great but not that spicy as I prefer.
(2) Gilaba from the saaj This gilba is good, but like all the other stuff it reminds me of an American Mexican restaurant, the flavor of Jeddah gilaba on the saj (ie foul fry) have a different flavor, here there is less onion garlic and hot Indian chilli. Still good but taste more like green pepper and tomato.
Soup This was delivered in plastic bags so I wouldn't get it again for take away. As the plastic will leach chemicals. The flavor of the soup is good. Light taste like meat/lentil flavor. It's a bit salty do you would get thirsty after.
Masoob I bought this but didn't eat it, looks good tho,.same as jedda.
I paid around 100 riyals and it's enough for 4 adults. You may have to order another shakshoka or etc.
Ordering was easy and I had to...
Read moreThis is the number one place in Madeenah for authentic Yemeni cuisine. And, it's all good. Really good.
Don't be fooled by the surroundings or the decor this is as real and as tasty as it gets if you aren't interested in going all the way to Yemen itself.
There is always a crowd, however, the service is relatively fast. Eating there you'll feel like you pulled up into a restaurant right in Sana itself. If you eat in or out on the "terrace" you'll be served in traditional wares which also add to the taste and the overall experience.
The prices are easy on the pocket and the portions are decent.
So why 4 stars and not 5? In my opinion, a 5 star place may not be where you go to get authentic food, in an authentic...
