This was my first time trying Nong Geng Ji Hunan Home Style cuisine restaurant, and I regret to say that I won't be returning due to both food quality and service issues. The taste of the food was quite ordinary and didn't impress me enough to consider coming back for a second visit. We ordered the signature dish, Stir Fried Beef with Dried Chilies (招牌菜皱皮辣椒炒牛肉), and although the portion size was substantial, the amount of meat was disappointingly minimal. It felt like poor value for money, considering the large bowl with so little meat. A female staff member informed us that if each person provided a Google review for the restaurant, we would each receive a portion of Glutinous Rice Cake (甜品糖油粑粑), as shown in the picture. I confirmed with the staff whether two Google reviews from our party would entitle us to two portions, and the staff member assured us that it would. We each left two Google reviews, but when the dessert arrived, we received only one portion of Hunan Flat Rice Cake (湖南扁粑), which was not what we had agreed upon. When we raised this issue with the staff, they claimed that Glutinous Rice Cake had not been available for a long time and tried to persuade us to accept the Hunan Flat Rice Cake instead, insisting it was better. We reluctantly tried it, but it didn't meet our expectations. When we requested to switch back to Glutinous Rice Cake, the staff member seemed unenthusiastic about serving us. After some time, during which she appeared to have forgotten about us, we insisted on the switch. Feeling deceived and compelled to eat something we didn't want was an unpleasant experience. After finishing our meal, we were given a receipt along with a SGD30 Dine-In Cash Voucher. When we tried to inquire about it, the cashier rudely told us to check it ourselves, citing that it was too lengthy to explain. Needless to say, we won't be returning. The food didn't leave a good enough impression for a second visit, and the service attitude led me to add this restaurant to my personal blacklist. In contrast, Xiang Xiang Hunan remains a preferred choice for its delicious food and excellent service.

Ordered delivery on two occasions in January 2024 via Foodpanda. Tea oil stir fried kampong chicken but $30 for small pieces of chicken with bones and other fillers, mostly some vegetable; spicy chicken offals (aka gizzards) was $18 and mostly chillies, stir-fried pork with abalone dish had only a few abalones and they were the smallest I have ever seen at $30, stir fried smoke pork intestines were tasty but in tiny thin strips that you struggle to find amongst the oil and mushrooms was $32. Overall their dishes were tasty but oily and full of chillies, overpriced for the actual portion delivered as they used lots of filler vegetables including chillies. Wanted to order again, but guess what, their prices on Foodpanda have INCREASED AGAIN. It’s now $24 for spicy chicken offals, $35 for tea oil stir fried kampong chicken, stir fried pork with abalone is now $40, signature grass fish fillet with chilli increased from $28 to $38, plain rice from $2.30 to $3, stir fried smoked pork intestines is now $42, green chillies with century egg is now $19 up from $16. Sadly this is the reality that these successful chains and concepts from overseas seek to maximise profit from all the “rich” Singaporeans as Singapore appears on/near the top of most expensive cities lists, as though all Singaporeans are moneyed. 2 stars for their portions/pricing.

Wanted to try this Hunan restaurant ever since they opened their first outlet (this outlet) in 2023 but difficult to make reservations. As they open more branches, the crowd is very much dispersed and decided to try this place for the first time. Indeed, the dining experience is not a disappointment. We ordered a dish their 6 signature dishes; Big shrimp with vermicelli and garlic, and a few others from their recommended section; Stir-fried preserved pork and Sauerkraut Fish with soup. For the vegetable, we ordered a very basic Stir-fried cauliflower. The shrimp with vermicelli is delicious and a must try dish. For the preserved pork, it is a disappointment as there are more vegetables than the pork slices. The sauerkraut fish is as good as other restaurants that serves this dish. As simple as it is, surprisingly the cauliflower is appeals to everyone; a table of 4 diners. The drinks are 1L each, so good for sharing between 2 to 3 diners. We over ordered a cup of Signature Lemon Tea and 2 glasses of Majestic Jade Tangerine. Surprisingly the cheaper Jade Tangerine taste better though both are quite sweet.

This restaurant too business driven at comfort of customers. The hostess asked if 5 of us can squeeze into a table of 4 (1 side of sofa seats and 1 side with 2 chairs). Out of courtesy, we agreed. I was literally sitting at the edge of the table. As soon as we took our seat, the next table informed that their friend is not coming and their count drop from 5 to 4, thus freeing up a movable table. However, when we requested for that table to merge with ours as we have 5 people, the waitress reply is and I quote, "还有人要坐" as if that we are not paying customers who deserved our own seats and space while every other customers can dine at their own comfort. We, as customers can be understanding to be at your convenience but once we requested for our basic entitlement of a seat and table once it was available, you casted us aside. Such customer service gave a very bitter taste in the mouth.

Overall, 2/5 for me. Service is good at the beginning and proved to be normal at the end. Very fast serving of dishes in 20mins for the very first round; for the second round, service staff served wrong dishes and forgot to serve rice for cos Manpower became limited during peak hours. Anyway, it is trial operation and understandable. Food wise, taste disappointing and below average. The rice is not fragrant and too tough. The fried preserved pork with dried radish is bad: over salty and too dry. Suspected the chef did not steam the preserved pork properly right before frying. The mashed green pepper with century egg and eggplant is normal, century egg are not properly cut into pieces, the flavor of the whole dish is also deficient, lacking in the depth and richness from hot oil and sesame oil. Price falls on the expensive side. Cannot get why need 37 SGD for this fried preserved pork.

First time here, as i walked in i got a good impression and i was right. Despite we were a party of 11, we were told that we had only 1 hour to dine. … interesting. What i am trying to say here is - if the intention is to catch up over a meal, i don’t think it’s conducive. Anyways that aside, i enjoyed the food, it was spicy to some but it was just right for me. Almost every dish was some form of either dried or fresh chilli cooked with. Tbh, it looks threatening but it’s more appetising than spicy. The menu is extensive, we weren’t sure how much to order and did not want to over do it. In conclusion the portions are rather small, if you high CC friends or family, you may need to order 2 portions of the things you like. Last point to note: the drinks we ordered, its 1 litre each 😂
