We had our toddler with us look for a place to do simple lunch and stumbled onto this joint as we were trying our luck with the Q at A$hton’s which is opposite them The live seafood display drew our attention (many many lobsters!) and after surveying the menu, we decided to give it a try The setup looks and feel like an old time Hong Kong restaurant, especially the chairs) and everything seems to prioritise function over aesthetics. Staff was friendly and proactive and we liked that they fuss over our toddler and us We ordered a few dimsum and 2 live seafood dishes. We were pleasantly surprised they had mantis prawn as we have not been back to Hong Kong as a family since 2018 and missed the under the bridge salt and pepper mantis prawn in WanChai. Dimsum was nicely done and priced reasonably. 2 pcs priced at $3/- a basket. The live seafood was really fresh and standard of cooking was good. The dishes do not taste overly salty. The mantis prawn was a tad too small size though so please order the 10inch ones instead of 8 One of the staff, Helen, asked how was our meal after we were done and we gave them our compliments. She said it’s best to Watsapp them for reservations the next time We will be back for more, especially after telling Helen to let us know the next time the extra large mantis prawn are new in stock! One more thing: the service charge is only 5% instead of the usual 10%!

Ji Xian Seafood and Hong Kong Dim Sum Express is a relatively new restaurant that opens in Kallang Wave Mall. The last order is 9pm. The salted egg custard bun is savoury, sweet, and warm. The chicken feet are peppery and rich in flavour. The noodles are smooth and tasty. The chrysanthemum tea is light and fragrant, which is refillable. The pork cheong fun sauce is on the salty side, but it's still very nice. The spinach soup with seafood is not bad. I love their green chilli (upon request) that goes well with the noodles. Overall, the food experience was an enjoyable one. They also have a lot of fresh seafood, which you can try. They have big fish tanks that have live lobsters, fishes, crabs, and many more at the entrance of their shop. It's suitable for families as well. The eating environment is also very conducive. Rectangular tables are wide and long that are suitable for ordering many dim sum. They also have round tables for families. Extra thing to note is that they provide PowerPoint plugs for you to charge your devices at certain seats. Staff are very friendly and nice. They do assist us in taking photos. #ILoveJiXian

Used to love this place for its dim sum and came here every CNY for its set dinner but I’m definitely reconsidering coming back here again… Patronised again today after my last visit 3 months ago but service was bad. The cashier staff was very unfriendly when I asked about a past lunch menu (which I thought I remembered seeing people eating) but I was glared at, snapped at and brushed off with a “we have never served such item” before in our menu. I mean fine, but you could have addressed it in a better way right? And food items keep getting wrongly delivered to our table and items I had ticked on the order sheet to eat with the dim sum (such as porridge and carrot cake) were forgotten to be keyed in by the staff. This is even though it was lunch time and the restaurant was half full. Can’t imagine if it was on a weekend and during dinner. Items I would recommend are the Shredded Chicken Porridge, Siew Mai, Har Gow and Beef Balls. Cooked zi char dishes in general is nice too, just got to put up with the bad service attitude that they brought over with their HK inspired dishes too.

absolutely terrible service. came here on a recommendation by a friend to celebrate a birthday. instead, we got served by the absolute worst service on earth. i’ve never been more appalled at the way service staff react. we are NEVER coming back here.

reached for our reservation at 6.30pm early at around 6.20pm, ordered promptly, but received the first item at 7.45pm. nevermind, we would have been alright with an apology if the rest of the food came on time. after finishing the first item — the oysters & lobster sashimi, we waited another 20 minutes for one small plate of sweet & sour pork to be served. there was no rice served despite us ordering 4 bowls at the start. they casually forgot about the rice until we prompted them about it. it’s fine, we can accept this if they were crowded. but they were not. apart from us, there was one other table, a noisy group that brought in liquor to drink.

to make matters worse, when we reserved, we requested for a room. they agreed. but did we get seated in a room? no. the room was essentially non-existent. a segmented part of the restaurant that has two sliding glass panels that were never closed can hardly be considered a room. please. if you don’t have a room, don’t agree to one.

upon prompting the staff for the food, we were constantly replied with “it’s coming soon” in mandarin. i can understand if there is a delay, but what i cannot accept is the constant lies. don’t tell me that the food is coming soon when it isn’t. they were hardly apologetic. the staff blamed the slow service on their kitchen being one man short, but that is no excuse. did your chef call in sick last minute? did you not know that you were understaffed? could you not have given our table a heads up that service might be delayed due to your kitchen being understaffed?

the food was decent. fresh. but imagine being served crab & lobster without the shell cracker. mind blowing.

lastly, asked the staff if it was possible for a slight discount as they had truly ruined the night for us. was slapped with free mango sago instead. as though that made up for anything.

we should have had dinner elsewhere. anywhere would have been better. maybe even the hawker centre would be more peaceful than this place.

TLDR: DON’T COME TO THIS RESTAURANT UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING SURROUNDED BY LOUD DRUNKS AND SERVED FOOD AT A RATE OF 1...
