The crowd of the restaurant amongst the rest on this street says it all (there's no crowd).
Was supposed to patronize another restaurant here, but waiting time was too long, and we're hungry. Hence, we thought we could give a competitor a chance. We're clearly disappointed with the choice.
We were first promoted when we're walking past and surveying our options. Their selling point by the promoter was "Cheap beer," "no service fee", "Big portion" and "great promo". But when asked what's the promo, there isnt any but Chinese Beer. We gave it a try anyway.
We ordered "Golden Corn", "Spicy Crispy Chicken", BBQ and also "Grilled Enoki".
Golden Fried Corn came out pathetic with a chunk of sugar on it. I'm not sure if that's their specalty, but clearly, this isn't what's in the photo or the usual of what we're served.
Spicy Crispy Chicken was small, mostly "fried crispy batter", and lacking in substantial chicken meat. It's also mostly bits everywhere.
Amongst their salty BBQ that was also cold, their grilled enoki was much smaller than promoted. Also, notably, the ENOKI was already FERMENTING. You can taste the acidity of the grilled enoki, which is a clear indicator of Enoki going bad.
All in all, I guess we can expect this with the lack of crowd during the peak hour where everyone there knows to avoid. Most of the people here are just drinking beer, than really there for their food which was what we're hoping for.
Would probably have just waited 40 minutes for the intended restaurant we wanted to patronize than hit a store we thought...
Read moreNEW: Still 5 🌟 One of the only places where I'll happily over order and over eat.. never could finish because portions are so generous and pricing reasonable for the great taste (but of course, all due to the oil, spice, salt, msg ;)
Not advisable to come too often for one's health, but if you do, just before 5:30pm is great because the wok is hot by then (due to earlier customers) but not too busy which leads to a bit of wait and inconsistencies in the food.
Note to myself, 酸菜鱼($17) is version with fish slices and 老坛酸菜鱼 is the whole fish version (the former is sufficient).
All for under $100! (See receipt)
OLD: 5 🌟 Didn't do any research, just walked passed and walked in. And what a find this is! We ordered 9 items and we'll rate 8 of them as superb.. with the exception of their 辣子鸡 - which should be a competent item in ALL 川菜馆 - it was wet, lacked flavor, it was just awful
(Updated: 辣子鸡 was much better the second & latest visit than the first).
We also did not enjoy the 大骨, simply do not know how to describe it, the marrow was so 'fatty'. 红烧排骨 was also disappointing despite being a featured item (full paged picture).
But the 烧烤 (羊肉串,烤鸡翅), 酸汤鱼, 四季豆, 回锅肉 were all superb. 菜花 was the inconsistent dish in the latest visit (but great in the previous).
Despite the tendency to be inconsistent, it is still one of our favorites now for...
Read moreWas recommended this place by my Uncle, and he was spot on; the food quantity is very generous, and the price is low. Definitely a value-for-money place!
The place does have a lot of regular PRCs and that's a good sign that this place does have an authentic price and taste.
The skewers are average, but their Vermicelli Soup and Cabbage with Vinegar is a must-order; goes so well with rice, especially for the cabbage! Don't be fooled by the name though, its just a very savoury and umami cabbage dish, not that the vegetables are soaked in vinegar or has a string vinegar taste.
Overall, if you want a value-for-money place that also serves very price friendly liquor and drinks, do visit this place! Cheers!
P.S. - sorry there aren't many photos, totally forgot to take photos when all the...
