I came here with high hopes, after not eating here at Baker and Cook for a long time. I had deliberately dressed down to visit. The positives (on food and drink): - The pretzel bread was good, just crisp outer with an even texture of white bread on the interior that was moist but not gummy. The knot was thin and therefore really crunchy without being too hard. Delicious!! - The pecan tart shell was crisp and mildly sweet and buttery. - Iced Americano was good, not the best I've had, but considered better than average. The negatives (on food and drink): - perhaps just me, but I really would have preferred a slightly more pronounced bitterness of the soda/lye on the pretzel - pecan tart filling was overly sticky and too sweet, and had hair that was definitely not mine. - the pear almond slice I believe was a take on the Tarte Bourdaloue. I couldn't eat this at all. It was served cold and hard, the almond filling was overly dense and way too sweet. In the end I only managed to eat the pear. The service (good parts): - Chinese young lady was smiley and friendly. - Service was considered fast and efficient. Got my order right the first time (I know this sounds like common sense, but I've experienced more than enough times of wrong orders being taken at cafes). The service (bad parts): - Pecan tart was served on a chipped plate. I may not dress like I'm well to do, but the least I expect is hygiene. - After ordering I was told to wait for my pretzel (for takeaway). Which was given to me in less than a minute. Why the instruction to wait? I'm not sure and was confused. - I was given my dine in food without any cutlery, which led to me wandering in the cafe for at least 2 minutes, with no one taking notice. - Eventually, I managed to get the attention of the Indian young lady, who asked me if I've ordered. I explained to her that I've been served tarts and needed a fork. I was given a tiny cake fork and had to struggle with eating both a pecan tart with crisp shell, and a super gummy pear slice, while everyone else who had a tart was logically given a full sized fork and knife. - With an iced drink, there was no coaster and I had to keep watching if the condensation from the drink would drip off the table onto my clothes. I would have thought at minimum paper coaster would be given for a large iced drink. It's not just a matter of the staff being able to wipe tables. - I was keen to get the bottled Lemon Curd, but the labels on the bottles were coming off for some and slightly dusty. I held back in the end. At $24.30, while not overly expensive by cafe standards, I would perhaps only go back only for the bread, for takeaway. Utterly disappointed.

Vegetarian food availability:5 stars This place is good for vegetarian. It even offers gluten-fee options. The setting and ambiance is also very calm. I really like their bread basket. It had varieties of bread which are delicious and soft. The moment you bite into it, it crumbles and dissolves in your mouth. The basket has an array of breads ranging from white bread to sourdough. It is accompanied with 3 types of sweet jams and some butter. The pancake is a sight for sore eyes. It looks like it’s straight from a gallery. It texture is fluffy and the caramelised bananas make it have a slight sharp crunch. The raspberry gives it a beautiful squishy texture. The blueberry jam gives it the much needed sweetness. The coffees are amazing. The hot cappuccino has a little froth on top and is piping hot when served. The iced hazelnut latte is light and delicious.

We saw this café during our last visit here and thus decided to give it a try. Except for Apple Tang (Apple, Lime, Ginger) & Jam Bombolini that we ordered, everything else was normal. Mocha took a long time and taste was rather flat, Tuna Mayonnaise Tartine was just Tuna on flat bread. Staff was friendly but appears forgetful as they almost forgotten about my Jam Bombolini. Jam Bombolini has rich fruity taste and worth a try. [Update on 1 May 2024] Came back again and except for the pastry, the others are normal. Staff is friendly and yet still forgetful and missed out one of my order, and I didn’t managed to catch that when she repeated the order. Quiet environment for one to relax and it’s just besides the PCN. The downside, price is on the high side.
