Tried the signature red bean paste with lotus seeds and tang yuan. The red bean was not cooked fully. They were crunchy! Felt that it is overpriced and quality is not there at all.
UPDATE (28/4): Received a reply from the store the next day. Thanks for your swift response. In your response, you mentioned that your staff observed that the bowl was finished and you also advised that I should have approached the service staff and they will gladly exchange a new bowl for me.
Firstly, for the record, I did approach two staffs at the counter immediately after taking 2 spoonful of the red bean soup to feedback on the undercooked red beans. One of the staffs argued and insist that the red bean was cooked, and the texture are meant to be such. No one offer to exchange to a new bowl like what you HAVE mentioned.
Secondly, you replied by saying that upon investigation, the red beans were indeed undercooked. This is contrary to what I have heard from the staff that I approached. I am not sure how the investigation was conducted. It also does not seem that the management of the store is aware of the fact that I did approach the staff in the first place.
Thirdly, I agree with your comment that the bowl of red bean soup is not totally inedible. I hope you understand from the perspective of a customer that money has been paid and it is such a waste of food if I did not finish it. My point is that as a customer, I am not getting the quality that justify the price paid for a bowl of uncooked red bean soup. I am not sure your intent of mentioning that "the bowl is finished" in your reply.
I hope my comments can be taken in good faith and actions can be taken to prevent such undercooked incident from recurring. Perhaps, a more stringent quality check before serviing the desserts...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen wanting to try out this fairly new dessert shop located right opposite Serangoon Garden Circus bus stop and I finally got to swing by.
Ordered a bowl of Peanut & Black Sesame paste and warning, it is not for faint heart! The combination of both works wonder on one's palate! The nutty fragrance fills the peanut paste without the slightest hint of smelly oil taste while the black sesame brings in bittersweet aftertaste every mouthful! The both compliments each other so well, too well. This 'Gao-ness'/ rich bowl of hot dessert warms the heart as each spoonful is still piping hot.(eat it while it is hot but be caution) I guess the 'Gao-ness' helps to retain heat which those diluted version does not.
The place is clean and spacious. Very comfortable setting with attentive staffs at the counter. Huge jar of childhood Gem Biscuits are available for snacking while waiting for the dessert.
I can foresee myself coming back for this hearty Gao Gao goodness again especially on chilling weather. Avocado cold dessert will be next on my return! Wait for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered the cendol ($5.5) and mango sago ($8). Cendol jelly was mushy and tasted sour, almost off. The ice was finely textured and gula melaka sauce and redbean were generous. But the poor cendol jelly really brought the bowl down.
Mango sago was very disappointing. Mango sauce and fresh mango chunks did not have any mango flavour to them. Mango chunks were also fibrous. Perhaps mangoes are out of season, but charging $8 for a mango sago that had barely any mango flavour is an insult. The presence of some grass jelly and ice cream does not make up for the fact that the flavour and soul of a mango sago is not in the bowl.
The place was clean and nicely decorated though.
Overall would not come back and would actively recommend against this place. For the price, we were deeply disappointed and there are far better options elsewhere...
