The menu looks extensive and reviews were not bad…which led us to have a group lunch there one fine afternoon. The surrounding was nice…and we became a bit wary as the restaurant was empty. Our orders of lunch set which started with the cream of potato soup came as if salt was free. When the waiter returned with a “new” bowl of potato soup, it just appeared like they added water as it became really diluted. Our order of calamari, Honey fried chicken and satay was so-so…if these could go working, better to close the restaurant! Manpower crunch could also be an issue as there appeared to be on one waiter doing nearly everything with some retired-looking uncles helping to serve drinks and service food. These uncles may not have prior F&B experience and appeared not be to be trained, they fumbled with the orders. A few of our orders were missed out by the kitchen and did not arrive until the rest of party were halfway done with our food. Strangely, the restaurant manager was very clear on his role - to manage the staff but not the diners’ needs. Whenever we needed assistance and he caught our gaze, he would tell us that his wait staff will attend to us. He obviously didn’t notice his crew is overwhelmed and he needed to step in! Generally, in terms of taste, food was not nice. The hor fun did not have wok-hei. The wagyu beef Hor fun came with a very sad slice of beef, served at the side. The cod fish hor fun came with more prawns than the cod fish…it should have been called prawn hor fun instead. The simple dish of pasta was mediocre. While the nasi lemak came well-loaded with side servings of a big fried chicken thigh, eggs and some curry, it did not have one of the most important ingredient - sambal!! Even if the chef wants to be modern or innovative, there are some basics, in a dish, which you do not remove. Imagine Hainanese Chicken Rice without the chili??!!! The only dish which deserved a little compliment is the Impossible Beef Burger. At least, it was not salty, it came looking and tasting like a burger, accompanied with fries. Understand from the waiter that the restaurant will be changing its name to “DAO”…not sure why. Whatever the name, if the chef and dishes remain the same, no name change will bring me back again. As you can see, only took 3 pictures and the food served was too...
Read morePleasantly surprised by the pleasant makan experience today. The usual grievance abt hotel food is that it's mediocre and expensive.. but not the case with 7th. The food quality was actually quite good, even more so when it's a standard set lunch menu. I absolutely loved the salad on offer (unlimited portions). While spread is not that extensive by hotel buffet standards but is the quality of the fresh veg and the Mediterranean grilled mixed veg that's quite delicious. 7th even provided perfectly done poached eggs that added extra oomph to the greens. I suspect the poached eggs is not a regular offering as it's limited in portions. I was lucky to grab 1 as I was early. I choosed the roast spring chicken as the mains. Tender juiciness in the meat but yet the unseen from outside as the skin was crispy golden brown. No hint of any dryness. Would be even better if they could enhance the flavours by being a tad more generous with the mushroom sauce. Just an extra drizzle should be fine. The ending coffee wasn't too bad either. Just 1 dislike.. The cream of mushroom soup was somewhat thin although the mushroom aroma was quite evident. A touch of extra cream should do...
Read moreHad a team lunch of about 13 pax here on a weekday afternoon at around 12pm.
This nice classy restaurant situated in Dao got super crowded later on at around 12.30pm. Individuals looking for a quiet dining experience might find it a bit noisy. For some context, I found myself having to raise my voice to talk to my fellow dining patrons.
First on the sides, truffle fries and the smoked salmon salad were amazing. Calamari however was not as crispy as I would have liked it to be. Satay was fine.
The mains ordered included steak, cod, seafood aglio olio and the truffle beef hor fun.
I really enjoyed the Aglio olio, which was rich in flavour and the pasta al dente. My only gripe is the size of the mussels. Heard good feedback on the steak as well. The cod was a tad salty but the flesh was tender. The truffle beef horfun on the other hand was too salty.
Overall a pleasant experience and would totally...
