After hearing countless positive reviews, I couldn't resist the temptation to visit this restaurant and experience its dim sum delights for myself. Arriving early at 9 am on a Saturday morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the place uncrowded. Contrary to rumours, finding the correct lift to reach the restaurant was a breeze, setting the stage for an enjoyable dining experience.
With only two of us, we had to limit selection. The TinZai Congee, served in an enormous bowl, proved to be a showstopper. With generous portions that could easily fill four rice bowls, it was a value-for-money delight. Bursting with century egg, lean meat, fish slices, prawns, and cuttlefish, all for a mere $4.50, this dish left us thoroughly satisfied.
The siew mai, larger than the average coffee shop variety, impressed us with their succulent meaty filling. Each bite was a burst of flavours that truly delighted the palate. As for the black pepper chicken feet, they offered a unique twist on a traditional dish. The black pepper seasoning added an extra kick, surpassing the usual chili sauce preparation.
We also relished the HK glutinous rice, perfectly portioned for sharing between two people. Freshly made and infused with the delightful flavours of hae-bee (dried shrimp) and finely diced lup-cheong (Chinese sausage), every mouthful was a delight.
Take-Away items:
As we could only eat that much at the restaurant, we opted for some take-away items as well. The HK egg tarts, although small enough to be consumed in one bite, tantalized our taste buds. While the filling was delicious, the pastry could have been firmer to enhance the overall experience. The Po Lo bun, generously filled with char-siew, provided a burst of savoury flavours. However, the pastry itself was slightly dry, leaving room for improvement.
The highlight of our take-away experience was undoubtedly the Cantonese sponge cake. Impeccably moist, light, and fluffy, it struck the perfect balance of sweetness. This version surpassed many other Cantonese sponge cakes I have tasted before, leaving a lasting impression.
Another aspect that I like about the place is that customers are free to help themselves to the wide assortment of condiments and sauces.
Aside from their superb dim sum offerings, the restaurant also serves zi-char cuisine and accepts table reservations on weekdays. The prospect of indulging in both zi-char and dim sum simultaneously makes it an excellent choice for family gatherings and larger celebrations.
My first experience at this place was undeniably satisfying. From the dinning in of the delectable dim sum and take-away treats, every aspect of the visit was delightful. The friendly service and the wallet friendly prices further solidified its appeal. I eagerly anticipate returning to explore the extensive menu and enjoying more of their dim sum. Location wise, it's within factory building next to PIE expressway. Easier to access via driving or car. It's a level 7 with directional sign on lift button and wall.
The queue system is to self-pickup a menu and pencil to indicate what you want to order and continue to queue to make payment for your order. The cashier will ask if you have a table already, they will not issue a buzzer if no table. Btw, there isn't a pencil with decent lead end for customer to write. I have to use my own pocketknife to sharpen or shave the pencil my own to expose the lead. Quite pathetic not to put at least a sharpener for users. I queue for about 25-30mins. Paid about $54 for 2pax. Ordered 11 items and 2 drinks. Another couple told us they waited for exactly one hour for food to be ready. For us, ours not that bad.. 15min odd and intermittent collection of other food ordered.
We ordered as per list of items on photos. Nothing is nice, quite oily. Portion is slightly bigger than some other DimSum place. Note i mentioned slightly only. For eg. The SiewMai comes in 4pcs of decent size. Pretty meaty. The beef balls is just lump of processed mixed beef meats or parts. The carrot cake is not panfried, rather dip in some batter and fried. The chicken feet鳳抓 was lumpy and coated just with black pepper seasoning. Failed badly.
The gluntinous rice also failed badly with no ingredients and whole bowl is just a tiny bits of lupcheong(preserved Chinese sausage). See my shared photos of it.
The xiaolongbao is not nice, the ginger were super overly soaked. No more crunchiness with the black vinegar. Porridge and HarKow were slightly ok compared among the rest. But there are nicer ones in other DimSum place.
The sauce counter was messy, many empty dispenser, not re-filled at any time for customers. The wireless buzzer does not sync with the display digital screen.
Perhaps overall ok was at least the aircon is working fine and with fan. By 2.53pm, the crowd has subsided and seems that the food collection is slightly faster.
Unlikely will be back again. Happy dinning for those who still...
Read moreImpromptu visit with parent for lunch. 5mins walk from bus stop number (80229) at Blk 45 Sims Drive. For those driving, ample parking on random afternoon, but may need to walk a little to the lift lobby. For elderly, there’s a short flight of narrow stairs with high step rise with miserably slim grab bar to reach the loading bay deck where the lift is. There are 2 lifts leading to L7, the one nearer to loading/unloading bay requires a lengthier walk down an eerie corridor with several turns before you arrive at shop front.
Food 3/5 Thought of giving it 3.5 but dishes we ordered are really not fantastic. There may be better dishes, but that’s what we felt. Portion is mid-generous.
Service 2/5 I placed an order which was no longer available. The staff said she had keyed it in, and unable to refund, request me to pick another item of similar value. I did. The receipt came out, it’s wasn’t the item that was unavailable. I don’t understand the part that she can’t remove it from the cashier item keyed in??? There’s GST, but no service charge. So don’t expect to be served. They will give you a buzzer and you gotta collect the food at their counter. But truly, they could do better for their service. They also do not have a sequence, they just dish out whatever is bulk prep and ready to serve. Example, I had to make multiple trips every time the buzzer buzzed for dish ready: 1st trip for veg 2nd trip steamed dim sum 3rd to 5th trips deep fried items no.1 to 3 (they mass deep fried 1 item, call everyone with that item order once). So there’s always people walking up and down :( And like all other social media famed eateries, service staff tends to be a sort of prideful.
Atmosphere 1/5 The main dining has air-condition, but not that cool. We were nearly set at the outside seat which has no air-condition and naturally ventilated. The windows are positioned so high that when you’re seated, it will just be wall beside you. I seriously would prefer dining in a coffee shop, airier, and with fans. Remember I had to make multiple trips to collect the dishes? The floor is oily-slippery. They probably just water mop the floor at end of the day without using much detergent to clean up the oil.
