Food - 3.8/5 Waiting time - 1/5 Service - 1/5
Food: More affordable than putien restaurant. Taste decent, like any good standard zhi char stall, but wont say extraordinary. Menu was comprehensive.
Waiting time: Dabaoed food for Sunday dinner. Placed order at 6.10pm, which i thought was pretty early. But only received the food at 7.10pm and after atleast 5 times of asking to check on my order.
Service: Understandable that shop is crowded and everyone was busy. But when i keep asking the helpers to check on my order, they always ask the main guy directing the flow, and in the end no reply was given. Went directly to the main guy to ask to check, he didn't even look at the orders he had in hand and told me to come back 15min, and say its cooking already. Went back 10min later to check again, and asked if the dishes even started cooking. And he finally went to take a look and hurried his chefs on my order. Just felt he should be honest about the situation. If the dishes were not cooked, just be truthful. At least we can better estimate our own waiting time and not be a fool standing there and waiting. Also they seem to have another order line which people call in and ordered, and paid when they come to collect. Those orders and those eat in orders seemed to be prioritied compared us who took the effort to walk in and order, and even paid upfront. Really upset about this whole situation.
Those who intend to try the stall can perhaps catch them at the off peak hours, or try calling in to see if u can pre order....
Read moreWorst service which made us wait for almost 2hours for our packed food. They told us that it will be an hour wait. We abided and waited patiently. However, after an hour we asked the staff to check on our orders, they told us it’s cooking so we waited and waited. We probably have asked three different staff 4-5 times to please check on our orders. They all told us it’s cooking now. All the people who came after us have taken their food and left. We were really upset and told them off. After that they checked and one staff said that the orders were missing. They told us they will cook now. It was such a frustrating experience, especially it’s Mother’s Day and all our old parents at home waited and hungry. One staff wearing an NUS shirt was rude, back faced and yelled in frustration. The service was so lousy. No one apologise at all.. all back faced us.. only one lady told us “cooking now cooking now”. It was such a disappointing experience. Service could have done better by giving us a better service recovery or at least sound apologetic. No apology at all. Shame on them. So next time people who go there please ask to see your receipt if not you will end up like us. Such a waste of time and food standard has dropped...
Read more4 stars for first visit. Overall dishes were delectable and service crew was quite attentive too so worth the price! Dishes I would recommend are the DongPoRou-like dish which came with ManTou, Cold pork trotters and the LuMian (which is more like YouMian with concentrated clam broth). Some dishes were almost there but abit wasted, such as the SweetSour fish (which should use fresh fruits instead of the canned ones) and the bamboo prawn (which had good herbal soup and fresh prawns but the prawn and soup were not "blended"). I would avoid the beancurd skin with vegetables. Will want to visit again in April as they say its the only time when they have "Sheng" (clams) ;)
Updates: 2nd visit was worthy of 5 🌟 as evry dish was on point. Tried some new dishes which included the dry Xinghua beehoon (which surprisingly was tasty even though it looked dry), Clams which were of season (extremely plump and fresh but do not drink the soup as you might get drunk on it) and spinach with enoki. All of them were really delicious despite being extremely busy on Father's day. The village braised pork ribs with mantou and bamboo prawns are still huge hits :) Will definitely return for good and...
