Chanced upon their poster on the breakfast set - bread and eggs the day before. Hence, decided to try the restaurant when they are opened in the morning for service at 9.30am.
At first, the staff serve us one plate of 2 eggs, but both egg yolks have become hard boiled instead. I even asked my partner if he ordered hard boiled eggs instead (as I did not want to misunderstand the server. But no, the order is supposed to be soft boiled eggs). Then we proceeded to feedback to staff A and staff A took the plate of eggs back.
Shortly after, staff A came by to serve another plate of eggs but the egg yolks are shown in the 1st picture, whereby the egg yolks are still hard instead of soft. We proceeded to show the plate of eggs to the manager and staff B, and they exclaimed that the soft boiled eggs were prepared way earlier in the morning, hence the eggs are like this. I told them that in this case, the eggs don’t match the food poster and the egg yolks are not even soft boiled. The manager and staff said if they were to prepare fresh soft boiled eggs, then we have to wait for 15 mins and ask us if can we wait? I was quite shocked as in how early the soft boiled eggs were prepared way early in the morning and it is still served to us in this state. We are alright to wait, as fresh soft boiled eggs needed more time to prepare as we are dining in a restaurant - wait time are fairly reasonable and supposed to be. But they sounded as such that because they need to serve food fast to their customers, they are willing to compromise the quality of the food prepared and served.
After which, the manager served the 2nd plate / portion of 2 eggs to the table next to us, the manager told the customers that the eggs are like this and if you don’t want, you can just cancel. The next table customers are shocked and then responded to the manager to just cancel.
We were astonished and taken aback by the way of service provided by the team today. If the batch of eggs are not fresh to be served to customers, we are okay if you explained to us that soft boiled eggs are not available today due to the quality received, rather than repeatedly serving us hard boiled yellow eggs with runny white which we feel that the eggs are not fresh at all to be consumed.
I hope that the team can be more receptive in hearing our feedbacks on the food when we approach and inform them, but not turning their back and eyes on us...
Read moreHubby and I wanted to try out Nan Yang Dao at the new Anchorvale Village thinking in our mind it is the same as the one in JB i.e. Oriental Kopi. In actual fact, it is kind of 'SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT!' But we realize they do not have any affiliation when I asked the cashier after I had to queue to pay. I also asked how come they do not have the Kopi-O with slice of butter and he said they do not have. And I also mentioned about why I have to join the same queue for ordering of egg tarts (for take-away) and he said 'no choice'. I said if the queue is short, I don't mind. But if the queue is long, it is simple a waste of my time. Considering I came to eat for lunch and going back to work.
We were shown to a 2-pax seat and ordered via QR code. I ordered the fried mee siam (not soup type) with fried chicken, sunny-side up egg, achar, 2 cucumbers, 1 small lime. It does not taste as good as the one I had in JB Oriental Kopi. And since I could not order my fav kopi-o with butter, so I ordered their so-called signature 'chendol'. It is quite disappointing, the 'green' color thingy look so pale, it does not look appetizing to be honest.
And after looking at my receipt, I realized that they charged service charge as well as 9% GST. So the question is should the service staff comes and ask me to pay at my table rather than expect me to queue ? Or the service charge is only for them to show me to my seat and then serve me my meal only ?
My meal comes up to S$24.81 (2 pax) and I must say, I am not entirely satisfied with my meal. Not only that, we sat there eating and felt that the aircon on B2 was like not cold..in fact we felt stuffy!
I hope they will escalate this to Anchorvale Village management to do...
Read moreHave walked past their outlet at Heartland Mall (near Kovan MRT) several times and wondered what's pulling the crowd in... 🤔
Yesterday, I got my answer at the newly opened Anchorvale Village -- it's actually much ado about nothing!
I ordered their nasi lemak with fried pork belly while my wife had the chicken drumstick with rice.
Though fragrant (as it should be), the rice tasted somewhat rough :( Not sure if it's due to the grade of rice grains or improper cooking...
As a comparison, a Serangoon Ave 3 neighborhood Indian eatery does a much better job at nasi lemak, even without using top quality rice!
The amount of fried pork was miserable for a mains. And the archar (aka pickles) didn't taste authentic at all. The (dried up yolk) sunny side up egg and deep fried ikan bilis with peanuts are run of the mill.
My wife's meal fared no better, sadly. While the chicken is soft and somewhat tender, it's not the fall off the bone kind. She also felt the rice was very off!
Mebbe we ordered the wrong things? I dunno, really 😁
What probably saved the day is the hot tea with milk -- it has a strong hint of a certain spice which resembles HK style milk tea :)
In the end, I will wonder no more when I see NYD outlets next time. First and last visit -- at least #MHTamChiak gave them a try...
