TLDR: long wait time, but worth for the fragrant, delicious pork porridge! Staff very friendly and trying their best to help you.
only 2 pax allowed. If you come with 3 or 4 people, will be separated to different tables. Very limited seating, encouraged to do takeaway.
If you dine in, staff will tell you to queue up and order first (10 minutes). Then you stand around and wait for a free table(s) (another 20 minutes). So waiting time is quite long. If you takeaway, you order and wait in designated chairs with like 15 others and wait for your number to be called.
Onto the food! š²ā Very fragrant pork. Delicious pork innards and meat, paired with nice thick congee/porridge. A sprinkle of green onions, fried onions, paired with a hot fried cripsy you tiao ($1.50 i think). Served piping hot even in takeaway/food delivery, so dont be afraid to takeaway! Well worth the wait.
The menu has other stuff like fish porridge, frog legs, worth trying! The drinks are cheap and yummy but a bit small cup for hot drinks.
Now a little bit of history on the 2 pax: the restuarant tried to apply for 5 pax but failed, so forced to do 2 pax. By 29 mar may change but nothing confirmed yet. Last time they solely do takeaway during CB and was really successful. Now they put in limited seating for dine-in, is not really worth for them LOL we dine-in also need to self-return trays and need wait long long for tables. Better to dabao, the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBack in the days it was nicer. Last time they weren't even open at night. But still quite OK now.
Do expect some queue, especially during peak dinner hours. Queued for around 10-15 mins before it was my turn to order.
Tip: Find a seat before queueing to order your food. Then if you're dining in, take the number tag & the staff will serve you the food.
We had the Signature Porridge ($7.50), which had chunks of minced meat shaped into a ball, pieces of lean meat, cuttlefish, century egg, dory fish, pig liver, pig intestine. Topped with green onions & fried shallots. Best consumed whole hot, else it'll be more watery after it cools down.
Also worth adding on is the Fried dough fritters (You Tiao)($1.20). Comes crispy, in a paper bag. You can tear it into smaller bits, or dip in porridge, or eat it on its own. Flexibility. Never goes wrong with this.
Added on a Small plate of sliced mock abalone ($4.50). Came with one lime. Squeeze it on, you get the zesty.
Beverages are in the same eatery, but separated. So it's to be paid on its own. Not together when ordering the porridge. Coffee O (black coffee w Sugar) sets you back around $1.10. And Kopi C (black coffee with condensed milk & sugar) for $1.40.
Soy sauce, pepper, chopsticks & soup-spoons were present on every table.
Good hearty bowl of flavorful porridge. Works exceptionally well on a cold and/ or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStumbled across this shop with consistent long queues and brisk business. I noticed many people ordering takeouts.
I arrived and ordered a signature porridge for $7.50 and added a you tiao for $1.20 around 9 am on a weekend. There were no queues. Food was served in under 10 minutes.
The signature porridge was mixed with sliced pork, meat ball, pig intestines, cuttlefish, fish, century egg, liver and chicken. It is produced in the Cantonese style. Portions of the porridge are decent for the price. It was made to order and served hot.
The rice was soft, mushy and smooth yet not sticky. The soup stock was rich, tasty and flavourful. My mouth wasn't dry or salty after eating, and a great aftertaste lingered. All ingredients included are of high quality. I find them fresh, handmade and not salty. The intestines and liver were surprisingly soft and packed a punch. The sliced pork, meat ball and cuttlefish were soft and well executed too. The fish was seemingly coated before boiling with the porridge and not fried. I found the fish to be decent but not outstanding. You tiao were decently soft and crispy, but also not outstanding.
This likely is the best and freshest porridge in Singapore. Porridge at fine dining restaurants don't even come close, especially in the quality and freshness of ingredients. Easy...
