Service quite erratic and chaotic. Went there previous week and asked about lunch set, I was told there’s no information on that yet. But I had seen on Facebook previously there was lunch promotion but the staff said previously early July no information from HQ. Which is strange since the company should set up next month’s promotion from last month, isn’t it?
Anyway I had wanted to try the set lunch and went again this week. I was told to wait 15 min while the table was being cleared. But other customers were also waiting. The other staff started seating customers who came later without checking that there were people already waiting. So, the earlier waitress stopped these customers and staff from seating. Hence, some unhappiness occurred with the seating arrangements. Actually it need not be so chaotic if there’s a proper division of tasks among the staff.
Next the food was taking a long time to serve. It’s just not difficult food to make and the soup is already pre-cooked. Frankly, the taste is rather disappointing. The Ah-Kon fried rice was supposed to have a stronger ginger taste but no ginger taste at all except SALTY. Very salty. I had to drink tea to wash down the saltiness. The soup taste frankly is not as good as LaoHuoTang. I think their soup is better than Soup Restaurant. And price more affordable with bigger portion. I was also not informed the dessert was icy cold. It’s a very strange combination to have hit tell hot tea, hot soup, hot rice then icy cold dessert soup. Felt quite uncomfortable after having the dessert.
The price isn’t very good for such food either. $13.90++ for rice & soup set lunch. Add $3.90++ for tea & dessert. Over $20 including taxes. The portions are small. Except the hot tea very big glass and refillable. Frankly, the food tastes like food court standard. I’m not impressed. The staff are rather polite but it doesn’t outweigh the food, price or quality. One man paying at counter didn’t even wear his mask, and the staff didn’t advise him to put on his mask. Thought it’s necessary to mask up after dining…,
For me, there’s no necessity to return. Perhaps better for the Indonesian/ Filipino medical tourists who seem to enjoy the place and...
Read moreThe chicken is the star here, but there are other delicious dishes - numerous soups, hometown tofu, flan, minced pork pyramid, olive fried rice, etc. Often a queue, but it moves fast.
Food is always up to standard & consistent. Been here too many times and each time ordered different items on the menu, but there are a few items which we MUST order each time. We always order the sweet & sour pork, one of the best of its kind among elsewhere that we've tried. The famous Samsui chicken is also to die for, the secret probably lies in the ginger sauce (sold for take-home). Only thing we weren't satisfied was the barley drink, too little seeds in our drinks. But I guess that might be the whole point, leaving us wanting for more. Staff are pleasant & friendly. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who loves Chinese food. Always my go-to place when I'm too hungry or I don't feel too adventurous about trying out new food.
Soup Restaurant has a rotating stable of traditional soups that are wholesome, as well as a range of double-boiled herbal soups that are nourishing, and their heritage fare tends to the simple and homespun.
The Beggar Bowl Steamed Rice ($5.90), loaded with blanched kailan, sauteed chicken and Chinese sausages, was indeed a humble dish. A side of thick gooey black soy imparts just that little bit of flavour to...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Soup Restaurant
I had high expectations for Soup Restaurant, but unfortunately, my recent visit left me disappointed.
Service: The service was extremely slow—unreasonably so, even for a busy restaurant. Staff members seemed indifferent and unwelcoming, lacking the warmth and graciousness you’d expect from such an establishment. Despite several attempts to get their attention, it felt like we were being ignored, and the overall attention to guests was shockingly low.
Food: The food itself was decent—flavors were as expected, but nothing remarkable enough to make up for the poor service.
Overall Experience: A restaurant’s atmosphere and service are just as important as the food, and Soup Restaurant fell short on both counts. The lackluster service overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable meal. It’s disappointing to see a place with such potential miss the mark so badly.
If you’re considering visiting, be prepared for long waits and inattentive service. Personally, I wouldn’t rush back...
