Alright, folks, Donkey and I were feeling a bit lazy and decided to just cycle nearby to try Uncle Leong Seafood in Punggol for dinner since we didn't want to go far. We were surprised to find out they don’t allow bicycles inside the restaurant, even after we folded ours as small as possible. We had to leave it outside, which felt a bit inconvenient, especially if it rains!
The Good:
• The Portions: The hor fun was alright, and the portion was pretty large.
• The Cold Guinness: The Guinness was cold, and the waiter was helpful and brought Donkey ice when I asked.
• The Ambiance: The restaurant has nice air conditioning, which was a plus.
The Quirks:
• The Hor Fun: While the hor fun was alright, it didn't really wow Donkey.
• The San Lao Hor Fun: I wasn't a huge fan of the San Lao hor fun because I felt it had a strong fishy smell. I actually prefer the one at Punggol Plaza.
• The Beer Glasses: The glass was not chilled and was at room temperature. This was a bit disappointing.
• The Bicycle Policy: It would be nice if they could allow bicycles to be stored inside, especially considering we had folded ours completely.
• The Noise: The enclosed space made it a bit noisy with customers talking.
• The Price: The price of the dishes and a can of Guinness added up to a total of $30, which is a bit pricey. However, for a restaurant of this setup, we felt it was still reasonable.
Donkey's Note: I’m not sure about the hor fun. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. I’m glad they brought ice for my Guinness!
My Note: I’m not sure if the fish smell in the San Lao hor fun was due to freshness, but it could be improved. I think the price is reasonable, but they should definitely chill their beer glasses. I also think it’s a bit inconvenient that they don’t allow bicycles inside, especially since we had folded ours.
Rating:
• Food: 3/5 (The hor fun was alright, but the San Lao hor fun had a strong fishy smell)
• Service: 4/5 (The waiter was helpful in bringing ice for Donkey's Guinness)
• Atmosphere: 3/5 (Nice air conditioning, but the enclosed space made it a bit noisy)
• Overall: 3/5
Overall: Uncle Leong Seafood is a decent option in Punggol, but it's not a must-try. The service was good, and the air conditioning was nice, but I would recommend that they chill their beer glasses, work on their fish dishes, and consider allowing...

We tried their signature hor fun, and Kitty ordered the San Lao hor fun. I also got a can of Guinness. While the hor fun was alright, it didn't really wow me. The portion was pretty large, though. Kitty wasn't a huge fan of the San Lao hor fun because she felt it had a strong fishy smell. She said she actually prefers the way they cook the fish at Punggol Plaza.

Overall, the experience was good. The service was okay, and the restaurant has nice air conditioning. However, I would recommend that they chill their beer glasses and work on their fish dishes. I'm not sure if the fish smell was due to freshness, but it could be improved. Also, since the restaurant is quite big, it would be nice if they could allow bicycles to be stored inside, especially considering we had folded...
Read moreThis is not first time I order from Uncle Leong Punggol. I remembered that the food was good when we ate at the restaurant. But this time, when we ordered for online on 6th May 2022 - Order 3-04052022153043, the food was very disappointing.
Firstly, the Black Pepper Crab. It is either they give us the wrong order or that the crab's quality is very bad. The crab is VERY SMALL for 800 gram. We had two other crabs which are 800g. Strangely, the black pepper came in a smaller container. The black pepper crab's meat is miserable. It is like the crab is being starved till it is very thin. =( Terrible.
The scallops with Broccoli is VERY disappointing too. Usually we will snatch up the scallops but this round, we "pushed" the scallops around. The dish is SUPER disappointing. It is SO bland to the extent that we suspect the cook forgot to put seasoning. Sigh..
We ordered Medium for the Pumpkin Prawns. But when it came, I was like huh? This is medium ah? Then what will small look like? Terrible quantity. Taste So-So only. I don't taste much of pumpkin. First time trying pumpkin flavor and will NEVER try again.
We spent $436 to have a very very disappointing dinner with family. I wanted to contact to complain but there is no channel to write an email about it. So decided to write a review instead. Because this round, we really feel cheated and disappointed about it.
Uncle Leong, I think you HAVE to improve your standard and quality. This is really not acceptable. You have lost one customer and many more because if people ask me, I will NEVER recommend Uncle Leong Punggol...
