We stayed at the hotel for one night and took the opportunity to try the multi-course tasting menu for dinner. What promised to be a unique gastronomic experience turned out to be a long, drawn-out meal, full of pretension but lacking attention to detail—especially considering the final price (€185 for two people, one of whom didn’t drink wine).
The restaurant seems to have high ambitions, but small details reveal a worrying lack of professionalism:
The tables had no tablecloths—just a frayed placemat.
The appetizer was a fried item that clearly hadn’t been freshly made: not at all crispy.
The main course, a piece of meat, was served on a vegetable ratatouille with too much red pepper, which completely overpowered the flavor of the meat.
The colorful gnocchi with ragù looked nice but were bland and lacked flavor.
The dessert, which was supposed to be the highlight of the meal, was a colorful mousse—tasteless and not sweet at all. Visually striking, but with no flavor or enjoyment.
The most disappointing aspect was the service: very slow, with long waits between courses. The entire dinner took almost three hours, despite the small portion sizes and the fact that there were only 10 diners in the restaurant.
To make matters worse, no one ever came to ask how the meal was going or whether we were enjoying it. The staff seemed more focused on boasting about the ingredients they were using and offering glasses of wine (which were charged separately) than on actually ensuring a good...
Read moreWe visited on a Tuesday and were the first to be seated at 7pm when it opened. Atmosphere was welcoming, informative staff with beautiful surroundings. The menu is a tasting menu style but you can also just choose the dishes you wanted. Portions are quite small so you really do need all of them… the food is well presented and food generally tasted good, some dishes lacked inspiration for the price you are paying.
The main issue was the time, we were there for 4 and a half hours!! The restaurant was only half full, we were waiting for what felt like hours between dishes (I do think we were almost waiting for an hour for our main which was a very simple cut of beef with ratatouille). I got the impression they were trying to serve everyone the same dishes at the same time despite people arriving much later than us! By 11pm we were quite exhausted... when another couple left they turned around to us and expressed how ridiculously long the whole experience was. If this restaurant wants to be an upmarket, tasting restaurant, they need to make the quality of their dishes consistent and either serve different dishes at different times or set a time for...
Read moreWe stayed in Kabaj last autumn. The room was cozy, the wine was tasty and the facility inviting for a relaxed late-afternoon/early-evening bottle of sparkling wine. Breakfast includes everything you can wish for (ham and cheese, yogurt, homemade spread, fruits, cornflakes, eggs on request etc.) for a perfect start. We even enjoyed dinner once, which was delicious. Since one of us is vegetarian, we asked for a slight meal-change, which wasn't a problem at all. The wine pairing was comprehensive and a perfect composition. We definitley recommend a stay and are looking forward to another visit.||||The one and only very small thing we would suggest to change is to apply fly-screens to the windows in the rooms, because we spent every night around 15 minutes collecting these huge wineyard-beetles (but we also left the windows open during the day!).||||Cozy. Relaxing....
