Pizzeria Picikato — Restaurant in Celje

Group of five, we were lucky to get a free table. The place was full, a wee bit crowdy and that's my only complaint. Food. I went for pepperoni pizza, to try some "americana" for a change. It was, according to my experience in Slovenia, No.3 best pizza so far. But you have to consider the No.1 and No.2 are from Italian owned/run/cooperated pizzerias. The ingredients were fresh, especially artichokes were a nice surprise. Pepperoni salami could be a bit more peperoney, a bit more spicy, but never mind. All in all even though it was a "mere" pepperoni pizza, iz was as delightful as a Margherita in Naples. Hats of to the cook. But then I tasted the bbq-ed pork ribs. That. Was. Something. Else. Actually, I have never tasted anything so good, EVER, so forget pizza, forget diet, forget manners, next time we're going for pork ribs! Pizza, drink, a piece of chocolate cake and coffe were 20 €, well worth every cent. I cannot recommend enough, but make sure you make a reservation - we were lucky this time. Also we didn't have problems parking our van...

Before starting this review, I’d like to acknowledge that my experience may not reflect the majority. This restaurant is clearly a favorite in the region, as evidenced by the bustling crowd when we arrived. The fact that we had to wait for a spot at the table speaks volumes about its popularity.

However, while many people rave about the food, I found the experience to be fairly average. The dishes were satisfactory and certainly filling, but I didn’t find them to be particularly memorable or unique. That said, I do believe you get your money’s worth in terms of portion size.

On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and made genuine efforts to accommodate us, which I truly appreciated. The atmosphere was also pleasant and contributed to a comfortable dining experience. Great culinary experience! Their Picikato pizza - something very rich in its taste, it will "kill" the hunger at the a third of its consumption. Normal size is just so big and plenty enough for two hungry tomies. Risotto with fish - delicious! Broccoli and beef soups are so good. And finally, the apple pie ice cream - something that only Slovenians can do at their best:) Pf that was not finally:) The waitress was so helpful and so very easy outgoing young man! Great service, great approach - simple and very straight to the point and extremely open and friendly. I am not drunk, it really was a very pleasant time spent there! PS: very rich menu, they have crayons for those who want to color a bit and keep themselves busy ( kids). Find a fun coloring sheet in the back of the table/plate...
