Danilo Restaurant & Wine: A Culinary Oasis in Slovenia Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Slovenia, Danilo Restaurant & Wine emerges as a haven for discerning palates and passionate wine enthusiasts. From the moment you step through the doors, an aura of refined elegance and rustic charm envelops you, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The culinary artistry of Danilo is a symphony of flavors, orchestrated by the skillful hands of Chef Nina Čarman. Her passion for local ingredients shines through in each dish, showcasing the vibrant flavors and culinary traditions of Slovenia. The menu, a testament to her culinary prowess, features an enticing array of seasonal specialties, from delicate appetizers to hearty main courses, each prepared with meticulous attention to detail. The star of the show, however, is Danilo's extensive wine cellar, a treasure trove of over 750 labels curated by Slovenia's twice-named Sommelier of the Year, Gašper Čarman. Gašper's expertise is evident in the carefully selected wines, each perfectly paired to complement the culinary creations. Whether you prefer the robust tannins of a Slovenian red or the delicate acidity of a local white, Gašper's recommendations will elevate your dining experience to new heights. Danilo's ambiance is as captivating as its cuisine, seamlessly blending modern design with rustic elements. The warm lighting, exposed brickwork, and cozy wooden accents create an inviting atmosphere, while the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside provide a picturesque backdrop to your meal. Beyond its culinary and aesthetic allure, Danilo's true magic lies in its genuine hospitality. The staff, led by the Čarman siblings, Nina and Gašper, exude warmth and attentiveness, ensuring that each guest feels pampered and valued. Their genuine enthusiasm for sharing their love of Slovenian cuisine and wine is infectious, creating an atmosphere of convivial camaraderie. Danilo Restaurant & Wine is more than just a culinary destination; it is an embodiment of Slovenian hospitality, a celebration of local flavors, and a testament to the passion and artistry of the Čarman family. Whether you are seeking a romantic evening, a business lunch, or a memorable family gathering, Danilo is a haven for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Well…. Not sure how Danilo got their Michelin star! We had their 3 course and 4 course meal. Sorry….I didn’t think they worth the 1 Michelin star. Let talk about the dishes. We got some kind of little starter eg cheese lollipops and breads. Well…the cheese lollipops was not so fresh because they were not crispy anymore when we ate and the bread was quite cold. Then we had the parsley risotto with shrimp…wow the chef must have lost his taste buds. The shrimps just far too much salt just doesn’t taste anything but salt. The risotto was too str with shrimp broth. Everything was over powered. Come on… you wasted the ingredients in my opinion. Then we had the duck breast and I think this was one of the worst dish with the worst combination ever! Celery root mesh just doesn’t go well with duck and some funny brown duck sauce, and the plum chutney. The worst was mesh celery root very powdery texture feel like eating glue, the sauce wow…speechless what is that??? The chutney was the best part. The sea bass was great because this was the only dish my daughter ate. The green mesh was good but not sure the vegetables (Pok Choi). Tiramisu was the best dish of the day! And this was the only dish I would happily pay for! The lunch was the worst Michelin restaurant we have been so far! My personal opinion for the chef. Trying too much not necessarily a good thing unless you are sure, over complicated dishes confused people. Good ingredients should be able to speak for itself! I would be more than happy to pay if the foods were good! But I wasn’t a happy customer! My honest opinion!

This place is proof that great restaurants can operate away from the big cities. And it's also quite an asset. A very pleasant place. Nice, unobtrusive service. No artificial pomp and artificial politeness. Nice and professional. The place is elegant but not overwhelming. Food very tasty. I had the pleasure of experiencing the tasting menu. Very interesting, varied, tasty. Very interestingly inspired by local cuisine, which is a very interesting experience for the guest. Congratulations to the owners as well as the Chef, cooks and waiters 👏

It breaks my heart to leave a bad review, but my partner and I wish we had seen a review warning us what to expect, as in hindsight we wouldn’t have come here.

The negatives: There was no one else eating at this restaurant on a Saturday night which makes for an awkward 3 hour dining experience. Unfortunately I can see why it was empty. Mediocre to average food with fine dining plating and prices. I have no clue how they got a Michelin plate, I recognize they don’t have a star or a Bib Gourmand so I genuinely wonder if they bought a place on the website. Don’t make the mistake we did: don’t come out from Ljubljana for this and if you are there, don’t pay for the tasting menu.

The positive: the dessert was fantastic. Our waiter was great, professional and friendly. His wine recommendation was great as well. A lot of the ingredients came from the garden and the chef came out and was very friendly. That’s why I hate to leave this review. This restaurant would be great if they became a regular, affordable local place as it seems...
