Soverby Lapa Beach Restaurant — Restaurant in Bergrivier Local Municipality

Soverby Lapa Beach Restaurant is situated on the beach at Dwarskersbos and has stunning panoramic views of the beach and ocean and during the cape wildflower season, the surrounding veld is like a wonderland of colour from the spring wildflowers which blooms from mid-August until end-September. Furthermore, the beach at Dwarskersbos is claimed to have the best sunset view in the Velddrif area.

There have been a number of mixed responses/reviews in regard to the meals, management and staff at Soverby Lapa Beach Restaurant and I cannot comment on those ….they can be reviewed on Google /internet. My experience was poor to say the least and was nothing to write home about.

We arrived at the restaurant just after 2pm and not wanting a snack, ordered 4 toasted sandwiches and 4 coffees. The coffees were received promptly, but the wait for the toasted sandwiches was ridiculous. After 45 minutes of waiting patiently, the waitress was called and asked what the holdup was. She in turn called the manageress who informed us in a very abrasive manner that they had run out of chips and that we must “just be patient.” The toasted sandwiches eventually arrived at 3:25pm – almost one and a half hours after ordering them. Very disappointing.

Would I visit there again?…..I think so, especially for the view. Would I eat there?…..most probably. I believe that we all have a bad day now and then and should be given a second chance. However, should history repeat itself, then that would be...

I had relatively high expectations, but was sadly disappointed.

The service was sub par at best, with very slow haphazard service - some items took an unnecessary long time to come out; the staff were overburdened and confused, several times bringing incorrect dishes to our table, and leaving off item.

The tables inside are too close together not only making sitting back to back with strangers an uncomfortable and way too intimate experience, but also making it difficult to drop dishes off as servers can’t move freely between tables.

The power cut out several times which was a blessing in disguise as the live music was way too loud for the venue size. But this is just my opinion as others seemed to enjoy it even though it made conversant difficult.

The view outside is lovely though and the food was good (and the only reason they're getting 3 stars).

Might be a good place to visit if you’re planning for a long lazy afternoon outing. There is access to the beach if you fancy a stroll, but overall the experience was not a good one for me and I don’t think I will...
