Ambience (8/10) - Lovely ambiance and decor. The low lighting is relaxing and ideal for couples doing date night or families spending quality time. Food (7. 5/10) - The cheesy garlic roll was so flavorful and tasty however, the cheese and butter was not fully melted. Sent it back and it came out perfect the second time. I however would've preffered a more softer/glutinous textured roll, not the usual sunday mini long French roll (but that's only my personal preference). Butter chicken was lovely as I prefer the more tomatoe based gravy than the creamier style. Naan was thin and absolutely yummy like truly comforting carbs. đ My steak was cooked to perfectionđ - medium rare and served with a proper steak knife (thank you so muchđ). The basting had a hint of sweetness which was so enjoyable and flavorful. The best accompaniment with the steak was that blue cheese sauce and rustic fries. Sweet, umami, salty, and crunchy all in one bite. My dish of the night. đ€€ My only concern for this meal is perhaps the price for 200gr (without the blue cheese sauce) was R188. Although one might once more argue - it is after all fine dining. Drinks... They serve Sir juices and Bootlegger's coffee = quality, nothing more to say đ. The desserts.... The creme brulee.....custard was on point and so creamy and tasty and could not fault it but the brulee was way too thick (like 3mm glass) and simply caremalised too far (almost burnt) - the brulee was unedible. Now those scones..... OMG.... it's not your typical big rock scones but they smelled and tasted like heaven on a plate (almost freshly baked - who knows). I was just happy smelling the carbs. They truly not big but wow... I'd go back just for those scones. Onto service (7/10).... Our waiter was a little all over the show, sometimes not hearing us correctly e.g. We ordered one plate of scones (two on a plate) yet two plates came. I ordered one juice but she asked if both of us wanted. I ordered only one creme brulee but again confirmed if it's two orders... I suppose... It is okay because ultimately, she was very sweet and most certainly a waiter I would pick no matter the minor forgivings - she was kind, courteous and had such a beautiful persona. Our total bill came to about R780 ex tip. It is fine dining and yes there is potential for growth, but that is such a positive, is the willingness to do better. Fully halal fine dining and absolutely worth supporting. With any new business there are teething issues and they are learning and we have to keep an open mind and be patient. With time, continued support from the locals and perseverance this business is already on the path to great things. Even if you feel for just a hookah/shisha pipe and drinks, they are so worth trying out. Upmarket, elegant, tasteful...
Read moreCafe Nouveau- Coffee & grill is located on the outer banks of the hustle & bustle of Century City, which is nice as this helps with serene & tranquil place any couple or group would want if they wish to avoid the chaos of the mall. Bookings are made online that are sync to your Google calendar which is a definite plus for me as my memory ain't what it used to be. The space is beautifully modernized with the vague & distant sound of ballyhood top 100 list. The transparent glass panels allowing a person to peak into the kitchen reminds me of 1 of Gordan Ramsays Hell's Kitchen episode making me eagerly wait the atrocious master chef plummet a poor sous chef. Seating is ample for couples or group bookings & to throw some je ne said quois by providing a Hookah service while you indulge, obviously in a different space. I applaud the owner(s) of this restaurant as there menu is diverse but they mainly specialize in only a few of those origin type of dishes. My wife & I opted to try the Infamous Nivee pizza that was wood fired to perfection. The toppings were unorthodox as it was marinated differently from your conventional standards & thats the reason why this madala steak pizza is a must. We also shared a Mix grill comprising of chops, cocktail sausages, that were astoundingly palletable, some wings, crusty sour dough with mash and onion rings. Everything on this platter was basked in chefpertise & not a single fragment of it were burnt or scorched. We opted for some badazzling Blue moctails, she selecting the Electric lemonade & me choosing a blue ocean monitor which somewhat resembled each other but vastly unique in their own flavors. I think next time I will stick to my Pina colada moctail as my all time fav. I will definitely be bringing my abroad peeps for some their steaks next time. Job...
Read moreHad a poor experience overall.
Food: overpriced for the quality of the meat and taste of the food. Really should be paying half the price for most items. Had the beef ribs which were done well but lacked taste and honestly I could have gone to Spur and gotten a better meal. Burgers were average. As an Indian who's obviously eaten many curries the butter chicken was disappointing - lacked flavor, small portion and the most important the taste wasn't there. Tasted like a regular chicken curry.
We had booked a table the day before for the soft seating area as we have a 7 month old, however the manager said he was expecting a group of 25 who need to be seated there. We didn't argue but were ofcourse a put off slightly, especially when we arrived at 2:30pm and the reserved tables were still not occupied by 4:30pm when we left. As soon as we arrived the manager told me to put the pram by the door as we would disrupt the waiters or some such reason. There was ample space and I had it out of the way. I decided I'm not going to argue and did as told(not asked).
We had lunch and desert with coffee and spent a lot of money at the restaurant. A few minutes after we paid the manager came to us and told us we should come again, then asked how long we were planning to sit there - even though more than half the restaurant was empty...
The manager was highly disrespectful, a poor host, and generally unfriendly even to other staff members.
We love to support a Muslim owned, halaal restaurant but if that's the way we're treated especially after spending so much money there then it's a definite no. I don't usually post a review unless it's remarkably poor or great so for the reason I don't want others to have the same experience I have posted...
