We loved Babylonstoren and the gardens were amazing, but were really disappointed in ths Greenhouse Restaurant.
We arrived at 3:15, and the restaurant closed at 4 that day. Since there were no staff at the covid health screening point (the restaurant was empty except for 1 other table) we sanitized ourselves and signed in.
While we were looking for a table (still unattended) we were very rudely reprimanded by one of the waitrons (Shané) after she had been angrily staring at us while making a point of not helping. Eventually she told us that we have to wait outside the restaurant until someone helped us. We told her that we waited for a long while and no one assisted us, but we did sign in and sanitized. She responded rudely that it doesn't matter and that we have to go out of the restaurant and wait to be seated, even though the place was empty.
We went out of the restaurant, waited for a different waitron, showed her that we already signed in, and then she showed us to the exact same table we were about to sit at before Shané told us to leave. Completely unnecessary. It took us a total of 20 minutes to be seated since we signed in.
After we were seated we were again rudely told "the kitchen is closing very soon".
The restaurant was a huge let down compared to the photo's of it available online and the staff are seriously obnoxious. I didn't order anything to eat, but I thought the menu...
Read moreThe gardens are beautiful but the food was a bit of a disappointment. A bit of a limited menu. I was eager to try the greenhouse restaurant as I was told a lot of the ingredients and are sourced from the garden. The food was okay. Not something to rave about.
We ordered a Boerewors which was R60 and all it was a plain toasted roll buttered with a sausage that was so dry and unflavourful. Yet so many herbs and spices were mention in making the sausage. No onions or tomato relish. They did have three jars with sauces but nothing that could help this displeasing and sad boerewors. This also did not include chips.
I also had the salmon sandwich and the biltong sandwich which to a relief was of a generous portion and actually tasted good. Luckily not a complete disappointment.
The menu was limited but then when you wanted to order some items off the menu, it was unavailable as it was sold out which made the small menu even smaller.
We ordered cocktails too, two were done well and the other tasted like juice.
I wanted to order the pot pie and then they said they can do a veggie version of the green curry but then would use a tomato base and wasn’t a green curry even . So why say you can do a veg version.
I will definitely visit the gardens but not sure if I will go eat there. Maybe I will have better luck at Babel...

I recently had lunch at the Greenhouse Restaurant, and I was truly impressed by the high quality and beautifully presented dishes. Here are my key takeaways:
🥗 Fresh & Flavorful Food
We ordered a green salad with grilled chicken (high-protein option) and another salad with seeds, quinoa, and roasted pumpkin. Both were delicious, fresh, and beautifully plated.
For dessert, we had buffalo yogurt with granola & fresh fruit and a passion fruit sorbet – both were excellent, with noticeable attention to quality and presentation.
🍔 Options for all tastes
If you’re not into light or super healthy meals, don’t worry! The menu also includes options like a bratwurst-style hot dog, burgers with fries, and more.
👨🍳 Great Service & Relaxed Atmosphere
The service was attentive, and our food arrived quickly.
We visited for lunch without a reservation. There were plenty of tables available, and I didn’t notice any guests waiting long, so walk-ins seem to work fine.
🌞 Comfortable Outdoor Seating
Most tables are in partial or full shade, making it a pleasant place to dine, even on a warm day.
Final Verdict
If you’re visiting Babylonstoren and looking for a casual meal in a relaxed, beautiful setting, the Greenhouse Restaurant is definitely...
