It's strongest feature is the location - the bakery and restaurant is situated in the old 'handelshuis' with a gorgeous view of the Cape Fold Mountains. It is on the road which passes some of the most revered wine estates in the country and don't forget Simondium's beautiful church. The menu is quite standard for the franchise although when we arrived on a Sunday morning around 08:00 am they did not have any croissants ready. When we came back at 10:00 am they did have croissants but it was so full that we could not find a place to sit. Nevertheless, it is perfect for a coffee break when cycling in the area and it is definitely more accessible than the wine estates in the sense that it is right next to the road. I did not appreciate the unisex toilets. In all a pleasant experience with some room for...

The place was quiet when we arrived at lunch time on a Sunday. Given what a lovely place it is and how popular other Ou Meuls are, it should have been buzzing. I'm not sure what the problem is, perhaps no manager working on a Sunday, but even though there were staff members around, no one welcomed us, brought us menus or even asked if we would like to order anything. We walked around the entire place and later, standing at the counter after changing our minds to rather grab a takeaway, no staff members acknowledged us or asked what we would like to order. We left empty handed. This is the second time that we have experienced the same level of...

I’m so grateful I stumbled across this lovely gem of a bakery in Simondium. I can’t start describing the freshness of the food and beverages I had; the scones were light yet fluffy, fresh, and well accompanied, my sandwich was flavourful and everything melted in my mouth so gracefully. Tanaka was also fantastic: she made my first day at Ou Meul completely memorable, very attentive, great customer service and communication skills. The menu is well curated and the ambience and atmosphere is just so zen and beautiful. The stalls in the complex are also worth the visit. I’m...

Sooo disappointed as Die Ou Meul is always tops. Ordered a croissant after I made sure it is available as it was not in the showcase as in other eateries of Die Ou Meul. Relieved the coffee and reminded the waitress, she told me it was warming up and on the way - when a dark brown croissant was placed in front of me she told me it was baked from frozen. They should inform patrons there is a long wait and serve the items together. I left the very brown outer as it was not nice. This establishment is not on par with the other establishment who are proudly Die Old Meul.
