I am absolutely disgusted by the blatantly dishonest behaviour I experienced at Ou Meul Bakery in Windmeul, Wellington. On a bill of R600 for groceries, a "tip" of R100.05 was added without my consent. A TIP? For WHAT exactly? This was a straightforward grocery transaction! A tip for groceries!!!
The audacity of the staff to assume we wouldn’t notice this underhanded scam is beyond belief. Clearly, they thought we were tourists—an easy mark for their ongoing deception. Well, newsflash: we are South Africans, and we immediately spotted this disgusting behaviour! How many unsuspecting customers have they fleeced before us? This reeks of a scam that has been shamelessly run against countless others.
The lies and excuses from the staff when confronted were nothing short of outrageous. This kind of behaviour is an insult to every honest business in this country and makes a mockery of customer trust. To prey on people like this is utterly disgraceful.
Let me make it clear: I will not let this go. I am taking my complaint to the highest authorities, and I will ensure that this brand's dishonest practices are exposed for what they are. This is not just about R100—it’s about integrity, transparency, and the trust customers place in businesses. People deserve to know the truth about what’s happening here.
I demand an immediate explanation and a formal apology. Your reputation is now on the line, and I will make it my mission to see that others are warned about this appalling scam.
Shame on you, Ou...
Read moreThis morning my wife and I stopped at Ou Meul Wellington for a coffee and a quick breakfast bite. I ordered a breakfast croissant which comes standard with Scrambled Eggs and Bacon. I asked our waitress if I could substitute my bacon with Gypsy Ham as I do not want bacon and she told me that it was no problem. I was then approached by a second waitress who told me that it wasnt possible and that I would have to pay extra for the gypsy ham, and I still had to pay full price for the meal even though they would not plate my bacon. How do you expect me to pay for something I don't eat? Perhaps do the math, bacon is more expensive than Gypsy Ham by about 30 - 40%, so you would've come out on top. When the manager came around he just said, sorry that's how it is I dont make the rules. I cancelled our breakfast and left. As a business owner myself you need to be more flexible with small things like this and instead of making a small adjustment which would have benefitted your bottom line, you...
Read moreUnfortunately, our visit to Ou Meul was very disappointing. We understood they were very busy when we arrived, but after specifically waiting until 12:00 for the lunch menu, we were served food that was incomplete and poorly prepared. The chicken pesto sandwich didn’t even have pesto until we asked for "extra" pesto, and the other sandwich that came with chips had very few — and those few were cold.
On top of that, the service was unacceptably slow and inattentive. Staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in ensuring customers had a good experience.
After waiting so long for lunch, to then be served incomplete meals and cold chips with poor service was extremely frustrating. For a venue that is also relatively expensive and prides itself on quality, the experience fell far below...
