We as a family visited the farm a total of three times since they opened in November 2023 (we went to the wine tasting side and restaurant). The first two visits really impressed us and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Vrymansfontein - so much so that we made a restaurant reservation on the 10th of November to celebrate a special occasion on the 17th of December (i.e. more than a month in advance). On the 16th of December we received a call to confirm our table placement to which we specified inside as it tends to be windy outside.
On the 17th when we arrived for our lunch, our table was however not prepared inside and they placed us outside. After requesting to be moved inside (as we initially requested) we had to wait quite a while for them to carry in an outside table, standing around awkwardly. When we asked why they did not have a table for us they indicated that we did not state our seating preference. This was however not the case during our call.
Once seated we ordered wine, sparkling water (which was flat twice) and our starters. We order amongst other dishes the zucchini, which we also ordered a previous time. Previously, and as noted on other tables, the portion consisted of 6 pieces, we however only received 4. After finishing our starters we ordered mains. We waited more than an hour. After asking our waitron where our food was we were notified that the deep fryer broke and that the order before ours required deep frying. We we informed that we will have to wait another 20mins. At this point in time we were there for almost 4 hours already and decided to rather leave.
Furthermore, when I left for the restroom I was requested by fellow diners to assist then to enter the wheelchair door. I had to search for someone from the establishment to unlock the door as no-one tended to them.
Worst of all - the chef witnessed all and did not as much as apologize or just came by our table to explain the situation.
Therefore in conclusion the main reasons for my 1 star rating: unwelcome and unprepared arrival inconsistent communication between establishment employees and between the establishment and clients inconsistent portion sizes nonchalant attitude towards clients does not take accountability for mistakes

Read moreI really enjoyed my recent visit to Vrymansfontein. We started our excursion with a wine tasting at the wine tasting area of Vondeling Wines. Upon arriving at our table, we were greeted with a tasting portion of their Chenin Blanc as a welcome drink. Thereafter, we had the opportunity to choose from a selection of wine tasting options. I went for the "INTRODUCTION" tasting, which showcased their more reasonably priced wines. We enjoyed all the wines we tasted, and the complimentary snack platter served during the tasting was a nice touch. After our tasting we headed to The Shed restaurant for a tasty lunch. The menu primarily focuses on pizzas and they have some kid-friendly options available as well. One of the highlights for me was the awesome children's play area, which is conveniently located within view of both the wine tasting area and The Shed restaurant. It's a fantastic space with a wide range of activities, mostly shaded, and even features some water play elements. This allowed parents to relax while keeping an eye on their children. To top it all off, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the views from every corner of the farm are amazing. I loved the entire experience and can highly recommend a visit to Vrymansfontein. I will...
Read moreThe staff at Vrymansfontein went out of their way to accommodate our group of 14 on a day that rained most of the day.
I did not know one needed to reserve a wine tasting, and yet management quickly arranged a table for our entire party. Their wine tasting comes with a complimentary board of divine snacks.
Our wine tasting experience saw us almost an hour late for our reservation at The Shed, which is a stone's throw from the main building. Again, management took everything in their stride.
The Shed (which only offers pizza dishes) has no enclosed room, one sits outside under umbrellas. As I said, it rained most of the day... luckily no wind, and plenty of blankets and umbrellas stacked close together to provide our party with a cozy environment! The Shed literally stayed open for us, as there weren't any other customers and we didn't want to cancel our reservation either and I'm so glad we didn't!
Their pizzas are absolutely phenomenal!!! With gluten free bases as a choice.
I cannot reiterate more how amazing their staff were! And can't wait to return to enjoy this establishment again and take in the...
