Brave Hawk Spur — Restaurant in Gauteng

I stopped by today to order 2 waffles with ice cream as a takeaway, I was told the order would take up to 15 min, I said this was fine. About 20 min later, the lady that took my order came up to me to apologize for the delay, and to say that they were starting with my order shortly, she had another order to get out (an order that was called in), the thing is, the little girl that was waiting for the call in order was there before I even placed my order, so why was I told my order would only be 15 min...I was offered a milkshake for the inconvenience, I told the lady that I had my child and husband waiting in the car for me, and I needed to let them know what was going on, as I thought it would just take 15 min, she said she understood and would start with my order immediately...i went outside to let my husband know that there was a delay, it then started raining, I got a bit wet in the rain and went back in to wait, I told the lady that my daughter was restless, so I really couldn't wait there much longer, she said they had started with my order, they only served the "called in order" then, it then started storming very badly, my child was getting scared in the car, and I needed to get out of there before the weather got even worse, I eventually asked for a refund of my order and told them that I needed to leave immediately as the weather was really bad, the lady that served me initially came up to the counter with ice cream, bar one sauce and 1 waffle, she said that the 1 waffle was ready, the other one was being made now, I told her that I cannot wait, I need to leave, cancel my order, if she had told me that i would end up waiting so long in the first place, I never would have placed the order...she did refund me my order, and gave me the waffle, ice cream and sauce as a compensation for the wait, it was storming so badly at that time, I had to walk in a flooded area of water, I was completely drenched by the time I got to our car, we had extremely limited visibility on our drive back home (extremely scary), my child and husband got wet as a result of this unnecessary delay, I got completely soaked, as a result, I am now ill, and I told my child that she still has a waffle, however, the waffle was folded in half in the small box, when she was eating it, she said it was "yucky"...when I tasted it, I realized that it was not cooked properly, the waffle was very thick and the inside was doughy...so I waited for nothing, and if I had not asked for a refund, I would have paid for a very bad, doughy waffle...I will definitely NOT recommend this Spur to anyone...going there for a simple take out turned out to be an extremely nerve wrecking event, and as a result, I am now sick, and a simple craving has left a very bad taste in our mouth...if only the level of food was half as good as Glen Marais Spur! I find it hard to believe that they only have 1 single...

I’ve been coming here for a while, and it’s time I share some thoughts.

*Atmosphere: If you’re a sports lover, be prepared to be disappointed. The atmosphere isn’t great—especially if you’re here to catch a game. The TVs are way too small, and honestly, not everyone can see the screen from where they’re sitting. This place desperately needs bigger TVs. It’s 2024, c’mon!

Value for Money: It’s hit or miss, really. During month-end, the prices don’t feel worth it, but mid-month it’s a bit better. Still, it’s inconsistent and leaves a lot to be desired.

Food Quality: Now, this is the saving grace. The food is really good, and it’s the only reason I keep coming back. But if you’re into cocktails, don’t waste your money here. They’re pricey, and the alcohol content is laughable. If you want a proper drink, you’re better off going somewhere else.

Service: Let’s talk service—because it’s generally terrible. Most of the staff seem disinterested and slow. The only exception is Nelly. She’s the one person who makes this place bearable. If she’s not serving, I’m already dreading the experience.

Cleanliness: On the bright side, the place is clean, which is more than I can say for some other aspects of the restaurant.

Frankly, there are far superior options where your money would be better spent. If it weren't for the consistently excellent food and the rare professionalism of Nelly, this place wouldn’t even merit...

I must say I was very shocked with the terrible sevice I received from this particular Spur, it took the waiter almost 20 min to attend to us and before he even came I could overhear in the background how he was not happy to come and serve a table which includes kids because apparently we sit long and he wants to knock off, when he eventually came to take our order he said he was coming back to wipe the table and that was another 15 minutes of waiting with hungry stomachs and no drinks on the table let me not mention how there was not even a smile from him even when we greeted him with smiles on our faces knowing very well we are irritated with the service. Our order was eventually taken after sitting for almost 40 minutes, took another 20 minutes for us to get the food and the restaurant really didn't look that busy, kids received their food with exception to 1 child of which she received her food with ours when the other kids were almost done, food was great and cannot say anything negative about that however the beverage my partner received had floating particles inside and when we made mention of that we were told they would advise the manager of which we never saw until we left, see image of the floating particles which we noticed when he was almost done with the drink. I'm very disappointed dont think I will be coming to this restaurant...
