Cursive Lifestyle Eatery — Restaurant in Gauteng

My husband is a member of Irene Country Club and so our family of 7 went to Cursive, for lunch on Sunday 5 January 2025, to celebrate my husband and my wedding anniversary and our middle son's 27th birthday. To say we were very disappointed, is an understatement! The cocktail our daughter-in-law wanted was out of stock. Then avo for one pizza was out of stock (yet sushi restaurants always have avo...) and the cherry on the top was a salad meant to be made with baby spinach, was substituted with rocket, without notifying us. Serviettes not replaced, below average grilled calamari, a bland pasta dish, a dry hamburger and the pork belly was meant to be crispy but was definitely not crispy at all!! When my son called the manager to complain, we got a very weak apology and the salad was remade with lettuce. Really not great service, no offer of taking something off of the bill or offering coffee or something in order to make up for this. Shocking and not an enjoyable celebratory lunch at all! We were seated outside at the big screen to watch the rugby. Terrible experience. We just wanted to enjoy the rugby but some people completely disrespect the no smoking sign and the restaurant seem to allow this as they did nothing. My mother who has had breast cancer, got a severe allergy and we had to leave during the Spingbok game as two guys were blowing smoke towards her in an area where kids were seated as well.

I expect the restaurant to adhere to the law of the country and to actually do something when they see someone being so disrespectful. There was also a person who has had way too much to drink who kept bothering us.

Many of the people were nice but our night was ruined due to my mom's health which is never an issue in any restauant and we are really disappointed in the complete disrespect of some of the people and the restaurant who should really start to stop these people from ruining it for...

I ordered a picanha steak. It was so tough that my knife couldn't cut through it. The restaurant didnt have any other sharper knives, so someone at our table gave me a sharp pocket knife to use instead. But I eventually gave up as I realized i was going to probably dislocate my jaw trying to chew through the piece of meat. Really horrible! On the plus side my wife's curry buffet was rather good and I was able to fill up a bit on that at least. Lastly, I hope that the waiter will use the money from the tip (we were a large table) to buy some mouth wash. We had to hold our breaths every time he came near us, that'show much his breath stank.
