A coffee fundi suggested we stop over for a cuppa. Had offered a fresh brew using old beans to him and was told that it was tantamount to sacrilege. Nothing beats a fresh roast for full depth of flavour he said. Was midday, in the middle of a heatwave, the thought of a hot brew did not do it appeal to me. Arrived there, greeted upon entering by friendly staff, needless to say, the air was permeated with freshly roasted coffee, a delight on the senses. Sat down near the aircon unit in one of the cubicles and discussed our options. Francois, the owner joined as and clarified my choices between an Iced Coffee versus a Cold Brew process. Elaborated further on how the cold brew process works, the beans used and so on. Was very interesting indeed. Cold brew it was and very pleasant drinking, fresh coffee without the heat. As for the shop, well laid out, feet passed the coffee and cakes enroute to the seating area, several content customers around, new ones arriving all the time. Was pleasantly surprised, location is a little tucked away in some side streets but well worth the visit, reasonably priced menu and coffee beans with a good variety on offer. Will certainly be going back to try some other bean and roast combinations. If you get lost, just...
Read moreA true hidden gem in the heart of Centurion. We stopped for a VERY generous slice of chocolate cheesecake (am still sweet) and a wonderful cup of cappuccino (each). The atmosphere is warm and relaxing with soft Jazz/Lounge music playing in the background - loud enough that you can hear it and listen in if you want, yet soft enough to allow for a conversation with your loved one / coffee buddy without having to yell. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming, everyone of them passing by making a deliberate effort to say hello, even if only in passing (they are busy afterall). Beyond the quick grab a coffee and slice of sweet thing, they also have breakfast and light lunch options. In addition, they sell and service a variety of different coffee machines from Syphon, Mocha Pot, Bean to Cup and everything in between. Buy a pre packed packet of beans to your liking, or bring your own container to fill up with as much as you would like. A hidden gem in its truest sense, Heavenly Coffees is a must stop for anyone who would even remotely consider themselves a coffee lover. Next? We are definitely going to book for a speciality coffee tasting...
Read moreI’ve been going to Heavenly Coffees for a few years, but there’s something off about the atmosphere — often sarcasm and tension instead of kind hospitality.
Today I went in to redeem my birthday voucher for a free coffee and slice of cake. The young lady helping me was friendly, but a young man, slouching at the back, told me that I had to finish the coffee at the table “otherwise it defeats the purpose.” What is the purpose? Is it not to make a great impression so that customers feel valued? I wouldn’t have minded being told it was sit-down only — it was the attitude that made all the difference. There are always kinder ways to explain something, or even compromise, that still leave the customer feeling valued.
A birthday voucher should feel like a blessing, not a lecture. I don’t care about a free coffee nearly as much as I care about being treated with respect — and sadly, that’s where Heavenly Coffees falls short. I left and...
