I went to Qunu for their brunch on Sundays and wow, it's absolutely amazing. This was my second visit to the restaurant and definitely more memorable than the previous.
The service as always is absolutely world class. You've got Raymond who is an absolute delight. So amicable and a complete vibe. He welcomed us and seated my partner and me at our regular table.
For starters I had the buttermilk fried chicken and lamb with cumin yogurt Taco and it's was delicious. I love Mexican food and that Taco just had a twist to it. Bursts with love and I loved it with that cumin yogurt. My partner had the Cape Malay prawn and calamari skewer which which just bursts with flavour. It is so delicious 😋 guys.
But the highlight of my day was definitely the Ham Cheese and spring onion waffles. Guys l, I AM InlN AWE. That is by far the best wafgle I've ever had. I don't usually enjoy waffles with bacon and sausages because that whole sweet and salty thing just doesn't work for me BUT you really need to give yourself time to go and order that waffles. IT IS AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. ❤️ 😍.
Then for mains I had Wagyu Ribeye with some roasted veggies. Those veggies weren't burnt and then called charred. Those were perfectly roasted veggies, like they're supposed to be. Oh and that Ribeyes was so tender, and just melted in your mouth. Made perfectly medium 👌 for a real steak lover.
While my partner had the lamb, and if you know lamb then you don't want it to be overly done and spiced. You want to retain that delicious lamb flavour and over kill it with seasoning. That exactly how it was. Absolutely delicious.
Theor plating was on point as well. Really beautiful.
Dessert was Malva pudding 🍮 for me and it was so soft and sponge. Loved it. The custard is usually a problem when having malva but not this time it's was so smooth, with 0 lumps, like a Sun International restaurant I once went to. The Malva is perfectly moist and not cookie dry like other restaurants.
But guys that Waffle is a game changer.
I would absolutely recommend a visit to this restrestaurant especially for that...
Read moreStepping into the restaurant felt like returning to a place we’d been before—not physically, but emotionally. There was a warm familiarity in the air, like a comforting memory—but everything was elevated, refined, and ready to write a new story.
The ambience was serene and elegant, with perfectly balanced air and lighting that made you feel cocooned in luxury. It set the stage for what became a remarkable three-course dining experience.
Each course was generous in portion and soul. The duck main stood out as the highlight—tender and rich, balanced by cabbage and pumpkin that stirred a deep nostalgia. It reminded us of simpler times and flavours from childhood, but reimagined through the lens of fine dining.
Dessert was a masterpiece—not just in taste but in sentiment. A hidden surprise element made it more than just a dish; it became a shared moment, especially for my partner, who was visibly touched.
And then, there was Lerato—our waiter and the true heart of the evening. His grace, timing, and genuine warmth tied everything together seamlessly.
This meal didn’t just satisfy; it stayed with us. A perfect blend of past and present—familiar flavours, new memories. A five-star experience...
Read moreWe went to the Qunu to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and I was quite disappointed with the entire experience. The waiter was completely inattentive, we had to get his attention for menus, to top up our water glasses and to eventually ask for a wine menu. The sommelier was really top notch and on point and made us feel like we were in a luxury restaurant - the only good star in the place. The food was mediocre at best - I ordered a medium rare ostrich venison, a third of which was served well done. The entire meal was tasteless apart from the charred broccoli which was the highlight of the main course for me. The oysters were really delicious and fresh but being a luxury restaurant, I would have anticipated the chef serving it with a handcrafted granita of sorts and not just the traditional Tabasco sauce. Never have I ever tasted a choux pastry as hard as the ones at Qunu. My stomach churns at the price paid for the “value” of food we...
