Place has great food and good service, however the owner has zero understanding that the customer experience is key.
Owner is a real piece of work.
A question was asked by a table of 11 people, if it would be possible to buy a full bottle of tequilla. He agreed, but at full price. We kindly questioned the reasoning for the full price, when many restaurants offer less if you buy a full bottle. We were met with sarcasm and judgement. The way in which he handled the situation thereafter was so poor, that we considered leaving without eating. A question was then asked about his corkage fee, as we had been advised that we could bring our own bottle, but thay we would need to pay R60. He infomed us that this was not the case, this applied to wine only. He then refered to another establishment in Benoni and told us that if we did this at this establishment, they would smash our heads against the ceiling. While we were eating, he then called out one of the people at our table, and said that we need to have a chat, bringing a member of his kitchen staff as backup. This ruined the whole evening. The bill was ordered very quickly after this. When we questioned him about what he said, he tried to play if off as a joke. We wont be going back no matter how good the food is, just because of the attitude of the owner and the way in which he chooses to handle his customers.
Smoke and Fire paint the picture that they are a family restaurant and yet the owner...
Read moreWow! Wow! Wow! What an amazing experience. My wife heard about Smoke and Fire BBQ and suggested we try it out for Friday night dinner. Tucked away in the outskirts of Benoni we would have probably never been aware of this gem if it wasn't for social media reviews. Right from driving unto the premises to our departure, the experience was great. Security guided us safely into our parking bay and directed us to the entrance. Greeted by friendly staff we were taken to our table and introduced to our waitron Gabby - what a lovely lady. Whilst everything on the menu got us excited, we settled on a beasty platter - I think that's what it was called. Filled with various meats from the grill, mielie bread, potato salad and mac & cheese, this was one of our favs of all time - if you love meat, then I definitely recommend this dish - divine! Service was top notch! Frieda even came around with a pair of blankets to warm us up as it was quite chilly. Everyone's priority was service and guest satisfaction, to a degree that I told my partner that the feeling I got was that although this is a family business, every one had an attitude that they're invested in the success thereof. For the food, service and the experience I had, I rate you 5 stars. Well done to Frieda and her team. Keep it up...
Read moreWe decided to try this restaurant after seeing great reviews on Facebook. My hubby and I are foodies and love to try new restaurants, it's our little guilty pleasure. All I can say is WOW! We had some of the most amazing food we have ever had in the East Rand! A platter for 2 can easily feed 4 people. The meat was succulent (and BIG portions) with exciting sides. For a change it wasn't your normal spinach and pumpkin side options, instead we could enjoy the most delicious mielie bread, Mac and cheese anf potato salad sides! I think what impressed us most was the hospitality of the owner and staff, they were so passionate and made sure to make you feel like family! Complimentary blankets were handed yo us to keep us nice and cozy. The ambience was great, no over bearing music, and it just gave that family gathering vibes. The owner was so welcoming and shared their story of how and where it all began.. My sales team can learn a thing or 2 from this dynamic team. Fantastic food, great service (thanks Gaby) and value for money. This is a hidden gem that should be shared with the east rand community. We can't wait to go back!...
