Watched Roan Ash at Moss and Maple. Show was great, sound was great, band was great. It was amid the pouring rain, so granted the circumstances was not ideal, but just a few points;
We booked seats on the deck, because we saw the weather predictions and opted to not take a chance. Tickets on the deck is R250 per person. The deck was overbooked, and we were seated on the edge, in the rain anyway.
Luckily we had some great tables seated next to us and with some shifting we could get everyone seated out of the rain with a mix of umbrellas and deck seating. And then halfway through, the staff (a rude lady to be exact) comes, taking the umbrellas for even more people they are trying to squeeze in leaving us once again in the rain.
Talking about the staff, severely understaffed for an event like of this size. Nearly impossible to order something.
Don't expect to be able to order off the Moss & Maple menu, which is normally great by the way. They have a different food menu for events done by outside people - R100 for either a beef or chicken burger or prego roll. Except for the fact that the food arrived cold, it was totally overpriced for the small sandwich without any chips or other sides.
Drinks are a similar chaos with only a limited menu served by the inside bar and the rest done by the outside bar which is somehow a different bar? At one point we were not allowed glassware, only to be given it again once pressed. All wine is priced over R200 a bottle which is a more than 100% markup.
Moral of the story: We loved Roan Ash, but left hungry having paid nearly R5 000+ in total...
Read moreWow after searching Plett for a kid friendly place with a decent play area, we were so happy to spot Moss & Maple from the side of the road. We followed the signs in and it was a pleasant surprise!
Plenty of parking outside. You are greeted at the door by two swings that you just have to take the tourist photo before walking in. Upon entering we were blown away by the venue. Absolutely stunning. Wooden floors, walls and ceilings. Big space with seating all around the venue, indoor and outdoor. We headed straight for the huge outdoor play area. The kids spent the next two hours playing and loving the enclosed play area.
So much for the kids to enjoy. The play area was quite safe and surrounded by a fence to keep the kids from getting out. There was also an undercover play section along with a large grass area with ponds and a nice water feature.
We tried the breakfast and it really was worth every penny. The lady that waited on us was fantastic and informative. We appreciated the conversation and advice on other attractions in the area that we could visit.
Inside the building there was a curio shop with all sorts of farm stall goodies. It was a really pleasant experience and perfect for parents with small kids that need to burn off energy in...
Read moreWhat a wonderful family venue. So much potential to be one of the best but what HORRIBLE service. (Maybe we were unlucky. Read below) No one to greet and direct to a table as a first time visitor. So we didn't know where to go. Waited for menus. Waited for drinks (half of drinks came on time, half came over an hour later). Waited for food (waited over 90 minutes). Patrons were allowed to smoke. While sitting in the kiddies area other patrons were smoking and it appeared to be allowed 🤷🏻♂️ Communication was poor (kept asking about food and drinks and were told it's on the way). When food eventually came... It was wrong. Order came wrong (ordered bread got Tramezzinni). Food was ok (nothing fantastic but decent food). (Suggestion would be to clean pizza chopping boards properly. Smelled of old olive oil. Still tasted good though 🙈) Then to top if off...The bill was wrong and we were charged for an extra pizza (had to have that corrected).
My first time there. So maybe I just walked in during a perfect storm...but wasn't a pleasant experience other than my kid got to play a bit in their excellent kiddies play area.
I would go for a coffee and let the kids play. Reluctant to go for a family...
