We were taken to a table for 5 inside by the Manageress/Owner We got a nice spot...Thank you.... We ordered our drinks (Latte, Milkshakes, Coke), enjoyed our drinks and after a very long time of waiting for our food we became aware that three groups of people seated AFTER us that got their food served BEFORE us..... we thought it to be not right but we kept on waiting for our food.... Then the waitress who took our order came to us to tell us that they don't have roosterkoek anymore (one of the 3 options presented upon placing our order) So my husband and our guest then chose bread rolls instead, which were not fresh. (The initial order was burgers on Roosterkoek).
And we waited and waited and waited...... After a long time, which exceeds an hour after ordering, i got up to inquire about our food.
The Manageress/Owner came to us after a short while, NOT to apologize but to justify our waiting with the following:
She said... That they work on a number system in the kitchen and as the orders are received by the kitchen it will be prepared and served to the tables in that same order. And the reason we waited so long was because our waitress might have been slower than another waitress when getting our order to the kitchen. (A Manageress/Owner telling a customer this???) How unprofessional! So the client has to put up with this? Does it make it okay if the waitress is slow? It is NOT about the kitchen or the slow waitress but all about the client. And we were not unreasonable by enquiring about our food after waiting more than an hour.
We eventually received our food but didn't finish it because of the bad experience we had. To be honest, the Manageress/ Owner's unprofessionalism put us off. We asked three different waitresses for a doggie bag and only got it from the 3rd waitress. Thank you so much...
The Manageress/ Owner said to us that every customer is important to her, and I want to believe her; But with our experience today, I'm not so sure.....
Will we return?.. i highly doubt it. a Plain "sorry for waiting so long" full stop live! would have been enough for us... But the justification of the Manageress /Owner in a body language that spoke more than 1000 words made it worse....and even pointing me with a pen towards my face in a very threatening way.... Seriously?! You really need to better yourself.
R800.00 spent...
The Positives: I enjoyed the Cafe Latte very much. Perfectly...
Read moreBad experience here !! Once again another coffee shop/restaurant that totally rips-off the holiday visitors with ballistic mad prices in the Garden Route area of South Africa !! As a family we really wanted to try out their waffles that some people talk about. So we ordered 3 waffles with drinks. Firstly what came was two small quarter triangular slices of about 70x70x70mm. The waffles were really very average and nothing in comparison to the great waffles we previously enjoyed at "The Waffle House" in Ramsgate in Natal ! We specifically asked that the syrup and ice-cream be in seperate bowls as we want to insert our own limited amount of that on top of our waffles. The price quoted on their menu is R50 per standard waffle which normally includes the syrup and ice cream in 99% of all the restaurants and nice coffee shops we have ever visited. When the bill came, they charged us a ripp-off charge of R50 for the waffle plus another R25 for the two balls of ice cream = a whopping R75 per waffle per person !! [Take into account that as an example, the very well known Spur restaurants, one of the best well known restaurant groups in RSA, only charges R39.90 for a half round waffles which is in fact much larger than these two small pieces at the Twin Trees restaurant, and the Spur is R59.90 for a full round waffle which in both cases includes syrup and a good quality ice cream.] When I queried this with the waiter and thereafter the manager, she said that it states in the menu that it is indeed R25 for so-called "extra ice cream". But excuse me, am I missing something here: in all other restaurants in South Africa the syrup and ice cream serving is always served as standard with waffles and not charged additionally ! The waiter never told us or informed us that that "supposed to be" standard ice cream serving would have been an additional R25 per person !! After querieing this with the waiter, she did agree that the ice cream should in fact be standard with the waffles. Besides that, their small cup of decaf cappuccino was also expensive at R45 plus R49 for Latte Chai ! The manager also had a weird attitude as to why I was quering this. So, I really suggest you reconsider before visiting this very expensive coffee shop/ restaurant in the town of Great Brak River [Groot Brak Rivier] in the Garden Route of South Africa ! We will most certainly never go...
Read moreWow, I don't remember the last time being treated this poorly at a restaurant. Extremely dissapointed w food and service, won't be returning or recommending this to anyone. Read for why:
After seating, waiter took my order and just instantly left, my fiancé seated right next to me was just ignored completely, we had to call her back so she can also order... First flag. Orders placed, we sat and enjoyed our drinks we got from the bar adjacent.
After nearly an hour, w empty drinks, there was still no sign of our chicken and Mediterranean waffles, the waiter didn't show up once during this time to offer to top up our empty drinks, or inform us of the food's status... Flag 2.
My fiancé got fed up and finally decided to call the waiter when she walked past us and asked if she could check on the food.... Lo and behold the food came to our table with a different waiter not even 10 seconds later... Flag 3
Waffles that arrived were cold, as were the toppings (grilled chiken), fiancé also said her chicken was dry despite the menu stating it comes w a nice sauce... It was more like a tiny squirt of sauce drizzled over the plate. It felt like the order was ready for a while but the waiter just forgot we existed? During eating the waiter STILL never showed up to offer any drinks... Flag 4
Closing thoughts: You would think that a restaurant called WAFFLE HOUSE would at least serve decent waffles? Not the case at all. Not to mention the waffles were quite small and a bit overpriced for what you get, which i would normally not mind, but if it's overpriced, delivered poorly and delivered cold, and without drinks, that's just a bit too much (if we didn't call the waiter and ask for the food after an hour we'd probably still be sitting there, without drinks) it felt extra bad because the older couple right next to us arrived after us and got their food much faster. And I can't imagine why a simple waffle which shouldn't take more than a few minutes to make, and add some toppings to would take such a long time. And still be cold.
If you want waffles I suggest making some at home you would be much happier.
The only highlights was the very friendly and welcoming bartender, and the live music (who served us drinks yay!)
At least the bill came...
