Outdoor Arena Restaurant in Bonnievale is the kind of place where you can have wood-fired pizza while pretending you’re in a lifestyle magazine spread.. vineyards in the background, a dam glistening in the sun, and the occasional duck that looks like it’s judging your choice of toppings. Established as part of a broader leisure complex, it’s half restaurant, half family funfair, and occasionally a wedding venue if you’re into vows with a side of pepperoni.

The Wheelhouse deck offers panoramic views perfect for sipping wine, eating steak, or contemplating how quickly your kids disappeared into the jumping castle jungle. The menu is hearty and proudly South African- burgers that could double as free weights, seafood that doesn’t skimp, and salads for those pretending today is a cheat day but “healthy.”

We visit Outdoor Arena Restaurant regularly. We drive 45 km from our town to Bonnievale only to visit our favorite restaurant. The personnel is very friendly and helpful, from the owner, Jacque, and Monique at reception as well as all the other personnel. Our favorite waitress, Patience’s friendliness and excellent service makes every visit a pleasure The food is absolutely excellent, whether it is a starter, a snack or main meal, and the prices are very reasonable. The location is perfect and seemingly very popular, especially for families with children. There is ample space for children to play on the spacious, well kept grass area. Recently we celebrated my birthday and were accompanied by our children and grand children from Durbanville. It was the perfect place for such an occasion, the children enjoyed the horse riding, the toys and other entertainment available on the lush grass. Beautiful spot to chill. Great atmosphere to enjoy a meal. The location is amazing.

If you don't specialize in a beverage or dish - don't put it on your menu.

Staff should be equipped with product and service knowledge. Or, they should at least make an attempt to know when the chef's shift ends. Unable to give any advice of beverages because, not only do they have a very small variety, but they are not even open minded to have an interest to what the request is.

Management was just as scattered as the waiters. Was unable to do damage control. We waited 2 and 1/2 hours for pizza's. At first we didn't mind as we wanted to explore the menu and had a few cocktails - or the attempt...
