I did spend my Sunday afternoon at the restaurant because i enjoy the erdinger draught soo much that i am prepared to pay R 49,- for 1/2 liter. However I made the mistake of ordering the Beer Garten Platter which was defintely not value for money.
100g of leberkaese 150g Frikadelle (one piece made of 1/2 bread/ 1/2 meat) 2 viennas (served cold and i dont think that these where from a german butcher) 100g potato salad 100g white cabbage served with 6 bay leaves and far to much caraway seeds
the menu discripton said a variety of german sauages, leberkaese, frikadelles and sauerkraut.
The bill for the food came to R150,- which in my professional opinion (I am working in the industry and do many menu costings for my clients, so i know the prices we pay to our suppliers) was far too high.
BIERGARTEN PLATTER – for da real man or for two R 150 incl.vat and R131,- exlc.vat Variety of German Sausages, Frikadelles, Fleischkaese, Potato Salad and Sauerkraut
this gives you a food cost percentage of around 30% which represents R39.30
The FILLET STEAK 250g is sold at R149 incl.vat and R131,- excl.vat
if you take the price of filet at R130,- per kg the price for 250g is R32.50 add R15,- for the vegetables and potatoes that gives you a cost price of R47.50 which gives you a selling price of R31,- (excl.vat) at a food cost percenatge of 38%
So to cut a long story short i was dissapointed with the quality of the meal and the...
Read moreAn absolute win for this place is that they are one of very few places open on a Monday in the area ( but closed on Wednesdays,).. that being said, they did seem a bit short staffed which is understandable for a Monday and even through this, the bartender/waiter was quick and friendly. Their food pricing is average to high rated on what you eventually get ( only one breakfast meal under R50 for example. ) Our meals took some time to reach us and they were freshly prepared and looked great with quality and fresh ingredients, however, we were left feeling underwhelmed. We had the gnocchi to start and though fresh, the cheese sauce was bland. I had the burger for mains and though again, all fresh, the frikkadel was under-seasoned and there was barely any sauce to speak of which ended up making the burger bland ( as we know, mozarella cheese is beautiful when melted but generally has no flavor so this couldnt even add to the taste of this burger. ) My partner had the German Brothers meal which supposedly comes with 2 genuine AfricanSwiss made bratwurst.. there was one and the other was boerewors. Admittedly, this fits with the AfricanSwiss theme but it was not what was expected and scored a 3 out of 5 from their perspective. Overall, an enjoyable experience and we are dying to check out the outdoor cinema so we will go back but maybe on a weekend when they are more...
Read moreAfter having lunch at African Swiss with my family, my son fell into their open septic tank and had to go to an Emergency room. I was promised the area would be cordoned off. After returning 3 weeks later there was no change. This septic tank is near the children's play area. The owner shows zero regard for health and safety or for human life as the owner of this establishment. I was appalled by his lack of accountability or willingness to correct the septic tank issue...
Edit: Just to be clear about something - the only time I have returned to your disgusting restaurant is to evaluate the situation of the septic tank and we DID NOT EAT there (which you know full well), which unfortunately I found in the following state (see picture). Needless to say, your lack or care for human life- be it your patrons or your staff (or their kids)- is appalling. And your response and lies are sickening.
Edit (×2): Please bear in mind that I have no reason to 'Lie' regarding this situation. You on the other hand... are trying to save face. Just fix the open septic tank issue....
