A celebration of food, nature and soul reviving splendor... at Bellgables Country Restaurant.
Wishing to do something different for Father's Day. I found myself in a bind.
My family and I often enjoy different things in a restaurant. My daughter being 14, enjoys running around and having fun. I enjoy quite luxury and attention to detail. My husband prefers the great outdoors and a hearty, well prepared, belly filling meal.
With all this criteria in mind I gave my choices some thought. The great outdoors, tame animals, safe adventures and a gourmet meal are not features easily found together. Except they are.
The choice was no choice at all really, as in my heart the decision had already been made.
We ventured Bellgables way to make sure it really was ALL that; and it was.
Quite luxury - definitely - the crystal Chandeliers, brocade table runners, exquisite setting and heavy silver cutlery - ensured that.
The fact that our waiter, Trust, knew our preferences after just 2 visits, was a welcome touch. On arrival our favorite red wine, chilled bottled water, cold beer and an ice cold coke lay on a server alongside our table in wait.
Needless to say the drinks, after a 40 minute drive were well received.
My daughter then, ever the adventurer took my husband's hand and together went for a relaxing, animal finding walk.
I luxuriated in the silence, taking the opportunity to read a book while enjoying my wine.
30 minutes later they returned, starving and satisfied.
Starters of Beef Carpaccio & Halloumi and bacon rolls were ordered only to be summarily scoffed down.
For mains, my husband selected the roasted lambshank prepared with herbs and served in a rich red wine sauce. Leaving the lamb itself succulent, bone melting soft and delicious. While I opted for a medium rare Springbok steak drizzled with a creamy pepper sauce, accentuated by the sweet tastes of soft apricots and strawberries.
My daughter chose the outdoors and the welcoming animals, as her lunchmates of choice.
Dessert comprised of a sugar coated warm, creamy Creme Brulee. Accompanied by Cuppachions (and heavenly Belgium chocolates).
As I watched my husband enjoy a leisurely hike, my daughter engrossed in nature while I luxuriated in a rich red and good book - decision made.
Here the clock has little meaning, there is no rush, no matter how long one takes in between courses. The only criteria is to enjoy one's food and surroundings - not a hard task, I assure you.
Looking around I was pleased to see the restaurant full with many tables doing the exact same thing. Escaping the hustle of city life, toasting birthdays and unwinding in the country.
So yes, in conclusion, Bellgables is ALL that and more.
As far as celebrations go why not commemorate them over a long leisurely gourmet meal. Where time stands still and romance and child adventure go...
Read moreDinner with Errol is always a SUPER PLEASANT TREAT... Never a dull moment and his food, exeptional.
Always the freshest ingredients, more adventurous than mom's cooking skills yet so much flavour even Mom or Grandma would appreciate the evenings off from cooking, and the portions are nice and big... don't indulge too much in the freshly baked breads would be my recommendation.
The food and wine pairing dinners are uniquely paired, and a huge amount of effort goes into this, the next food and wine dinner is soon to come... so make your booking to avoid being dissapointed... but dinner in general is deliciously planned doesn't have to be a food and wine pairing one.
On a Classic note Daniella always ensure life entertainment with a voice like an angel and playing a Stradivarius violin thus ensuring the ensamble of background music is cratered for, and being in the perfect pitch.
Wheelchair acceptable entrances with fire places outside that set the ambience for the ones who want to run for a quick break between meals whether a leg stretch or a smoke. Dont forget to ask to stroll through the art gallery NOT THE RESTAURANT ... there is a seperate gallery as well to absorb some gorgeous art keep in mind usually welcome drinks are served next to the gallerey before for the gourmet dinners start.
The touch of gravel road on the very last stretch maybe 100m is really well maintained and do i often go there with my small hatchback car without a problem, the majority of the road is paved though.
If there is a restaurant that I can honestly reccomend in this area it will be undoubtedly Bellgables. GIVE IT A TRY YOU WOULD BE HAPPY YOU DID..remember to mention if you celebrate a special occation, even if it is just moms evening out 😁 cheers to an always...
Read moreDearest Errol, Harry and all the staff at Bellgables, we cannot thank you enough for such a festive and wonderful Christmas Day spent in your restaurant. After Harry’s hip replacement a month ago and Errol having kidney stones removed last week; I was so impressed with the sensational day you were still able to give us all yesterday - wow what a great Christmas. From the moment we walked in to your establishment with that forest of decorations, uplifting live music and welcoming festive cheer - we knew that Christmas had arrived !!! Imagine our delight when you began serving that Michelin star meal that you had prepared - wow. The meal began with a turkey & mushroom soup that quite honestly I’d travel continents to repeat again, and that was just the start of the culinary delight we got to enjoy. Even Woolworths cannot slice their gammon so wonderfully thin and they never get it so moist that it was melt in the mouth delicious and yet not too heavy for the second entree. Not wanting too large a main course we all decided to go for the salmon and we weren’t disappointed- it was crispy and hot on the outside with tasty and tender meat on the inside - a perfect portion of a top quality fish. The desert was so good we bought an extra portion to have today - yay yay for planning. What an absolutely fantastic Christmas we had, just by coming to your restaurant and being involved with the event you always make so special. Everybody was festive, fun and full of laughter (except of course the Christmas grinch at that corner table), but regardless we want to thank you dear Bellgables for once again making our day so wonderfully special, jeremy,...
