Over the years, I have been to black horse a few times. They have the prettiest scenery and it is such a nice place having the need to get out and be in nature. The staff are so friendly and this time round when I went, I got to collect free lemons at the entrance which was so kind and it was unlimited as to how many you could take. The waitress we had was absolutely wonderful and so sweet and talkative. The restaurant overall is pretty average and the menu is a bit limited from pizza to burgers to other dishes like fish and chips and basic salads. Their prices are a bit on the higher side due to location yet the food is very basic. The service is very great and fast but I think that depends on how busy it is on some days but everything came quite quickly which was convenient. The food we ordered was average to good. the hake was very crispy and the tartare sauce added a nice zest of flavour. Their child are well seasoned and rustic. the bœuf bourguignon was actually very comforting. The sauce was tasty with cubes of beef and the polenta gave a nice twist as to normal mashed Potatoes. -the crispy chicken tenders on ciabatta were kind of a let down and disappointing. First of the ciabatta was not ciabatta, it was just a plain white bread roll and it was stale and dry. They were a little stingy with the chicken strips in the roll. There were more chips than anything else. The guacamole was also a very small amount and don’t think it was well worth R139. -their pizzas are pretty decent and smell wonderful and the base is quite crispy. Nice for the kiddos. -the burgers are quite a big portion and also decent yet the bread rolls once again are a bit of a let down.
Besides the food, this place is very pretty to the eye. Love how they take care of the animals, the flowers...
Read moreWow Wow Wow!! Absolutely wow! What an amazing restaurant & wedding / conference venue!! Yes it is totally in the middle of nowhere and guaranteed to be quite a distance away from where ever you are, but trust me it is absolutely worth it.
We took a chance going there with less than the highest of hopes, but from the first second we got there we were completely blown away - even the parking lot is beautiful!! Lol.
When you walk in you are greeted by the warmest and single most helpful restaurant hostess I have ever encountered, then we were led through the entire venue to choose where we would most like to sit. It was a rather chilly day so we chose the cosiest spot in the world inside in a quiet private little nook by the entrance of the beer tasting bar right by a beautiful fireplace and window seat.
The menu is a bit simple due to covid restrictions etc but that definately doesn't mean to say that it is lacking in any way. Every single thing on the menu looks amazing and is super reasonably priced. The food we ordered was amazing, as was the beer tasting tray we ordered. There are also gun and wine tasting bars aswell.
Afterwards we took a walk around the entire property and it just blew us away. Everything is just beautiful, well maintained and totally manicured to perfection. The place was super busy despite being in the middle of nowhere and the vibe was amazing.
If you ever have an afternoon with no plans and feel like having one of the best meals in the best restaurants in the country then treat yourself and...
Read moreI own a gin bar in the W.Cape with currently more than 115 different national and international gins. I was made aware of this distillery by a visitor who could not stop singing the praises of this distillery and so I attempted to make contact, being especially interested in their award winning gins. What a nightmare! What an absolute insult to the person who recommended them to me! They can not be bothered to answer their email nor their whatsapp: it is shocking in this day and age that people actually are not interested in achieving sales. There just is no defense for this behaviour at all. To make matters worse, I then scrambled for their social media as I was still intent on getting the gin only to be told I have to come to the distillery even though I mentioned that I am in the W.Cape. In a last ditch effort, I then found someone to go there on my behalf but I just wanted tasting notes so I could know what I was going to buy, but they weren't going to budge. Their apathy is insane, their lack of interest in achieving sales utterly ridiculous! The person on whatsapp finally responded with outrage but he could not be bothered to try and help either, instead just trying to pass the buck with an excuse along the lines of it not being his department! Totally shocking experience - please learn the ethos of trying to encourage rather than blatantly discourage sales. Learn to respond to email, learn that it's a good thing if someone wants to pay money for something you have: don't discourage them! Good luck: you...
