If you don't know Rango and love good food, keep reading.
Absolutely delightful! It's our second visit and we were even more blown away by the delicious food and warm welcome.
Upon arrival, there was a slight mix up with our table, but to be honest we hadn't a clue what the error was and we're gifted a glass of wine on the house while we waited to be seated.
The menus were put down, and instantly I knew I had a problem, I wanted to order everything! Good thing my better half loves to share. Between the two of us we decided on the Massaman Lamb shank with rice and pickled vegetables and the other main, pork belly with parsnip mash, quince sauce and pea puree. Both mains were stunning, memorable and left us wanting for more, albeit we were stuffed.
Dessert was a crepe with baked apples, it was delicious, but I was absolutely defeated by this point with my better half opting not to assist me.
The menu was everything the the wintery heart could've wished for! We set on our way, but not without seeing the star of the show, Rango, who is the resident pup, a friendly giant who is just too adorable. We fell in love with this doggo from visit one!
I could write more, but do yourself a favour and go experience it for yourself, you'll be ever so thankful you did.
We'll be back, again, and...
Read moreI have been a returning patron of Mogg‘s for three years now. The gravel road towards the restaurant is a little bit rough, but good things wait for you at the end of the road. If you want to sit outside, just pack an extra pullover, it‘s always windy and a little bit chilly in the Hemel en Aarde valley. There is a nice garden with a trampoline and jungle gym for the youngsters. The food is outstanding with a lots of dishes heavy on veg from Mogg’s own garden. You don’t come here for mainstream food like fish and chips or a pizza in other words. Mogg’s will always have at least one dish with pork, lamb, fish, and beef. I have loaded up photos of their January 2021 menu, just have a look. They change their menu every season, but stay true to their style, so no need to worry about unpleasant surprises! I especially like that they always have decent kiddies food. For the quality of the food and the setting, Mogg’s is in my book easily a six star place and a nice change from Hermanus‘ restaurants that are a little bit cheaper but mostly only serve average food. After all this praise, I have only one small complaint: Mogg’s definitely still has some work to do on the coffee front. But...
Read moreAttempting to visit Moggs was sadly a very unpleasant start to our honeymoon in Hermanus. We had found Moggs during our internet search of the area and happened to drive past on the first day of our getaway. We were very excited to find the restaurant that was on our bucket list for the duration of our stay. This was our experience:
The gravel road was horrible. We were also unable to see any recent attempt at maintenance - problematic if you are driving a lower car!
The hostess was extremely unaccommodating. The restaurant was full and the hostess made no attempt to assist us otherwise by offering to put us on a waiting list or allowing us (a small group of merely 2 people) to order a take-away meal, following the horrible trip.
Based on our experience, we are under the impression that Moggs is too popular - given the hype that it tends to receive - to care about the unique experience of only 2 customers.
Disappointing. I will most certainly not attempt to revisit the restaurant and would definitely not...
