We stayed for 2 nights. Beautiful setting and very clean rooms. Wifi was very very bad. We requested assistance on both days which made no differance. 1st Mornings breakfast was slow but delicious. The second morning was a disaster. We phoned to ask if we can come at between 10 and 11 because I was attending a race. It was confirmed at 9h30. We arrived at 10h40. I was offered juice and requested oranje juice. Sorry no oranje juice!!!! BUT at the empty table next to us a half full jar was standing. At 11h15 we asked when can we expect the cold (jogurt, muesli and cut fruit) It was still comimg was the answer with attitude. The food, hot and cold, arrived. No cutlery, no servets and no bowl to dish up the cold breakfast!!! We had to ask and wait a while. Request for an explanation from Tuff, the supervisor. He appeared with OJ and sorry but the 5 waitress did not place the order. Phoned the office while sitting there. Spoke to some there. Would like to speak to someone in charge. Was reminded more than once that the owner is spending time with his family. This person wanted to know our table number. HELLO we were the only people left!!!!! When I jokingly ask if I should send a pindrop.... answer Yes pls. Then I realised that this faclity is ...... and I put the phone down. The menu is very expensive. R350 for a ribeye steak! Not worth the dirt road...

We decided to have a glass of wine before dinner. I chose a red blend of their estate. The chefs wife poured the glass right full at the table. No „pre zip“ to taste was offered. So I tried after she had already left. First of all the wine was super cold - like white wine temp. And there where trub particles all over the place within the wine. It was unforunately way too chilled, and tasted really bitter. I told her about it in a friendly manner and asked if she would have a taste to see what might be wrong. First she made me feel like a stupid customer as she said she doesnt need to taste, as she just opended the bottle (which was not true as she poured the wine in front of us and the bottle was yet missing some content) and then questioned my worries about the bitterness. I think this behaviour is not appropriate nor very professional as we were just asking very friendly. After this I received a pinotage which was at normal temp and tasted ok, but she wasnt very keen on serving us any more.
During dinner we sat quite close to the kitchen and every once in a while you could hear the chef shouting harshly at the other kitchen staff which was giving not the best feel either.
The waiter in the restaurant did a nice job. Food was good, but not...
Read moreWhat a big treat to stay at the Fisherman's Cottage at the beautiful Springfontein Estate. Grapeheaven for me because I was again allowed to work a day with the cellar team. To learn more about the several vinification techniques they used and learned more about the special Chenel grape. Baie dankie for your warmth and hospitality. Special to Johst, Jeanne, Tania, Marisca and the lovely lady in the Barn who filled regularly my waterbottle with chilled water before I had to ask. If you are looking for an amazing place to stay, enjoy the delicious food (they also have an fine dine experience 3 month a year) and upon all the delicious wines they made than please go to the website and book your stay. I promise, you...
