Papachinos Clearwater — Restaurant in Roodepoort

We went for pizza on a Thursday evening. The place was pretty clean and the food was good. The waiter did tell us that the kitchen would be closing at eight, which is very early. The same waiter came and told us that he had to ring up the bill because the place was closing at around half past nine. Closing to suit the staff rather than serving the needs of the customer is always a death knell for a restaurant. When we arrived the waiter took our drinks order, then came back a few minutes later to take a food order and we ordered more drinks when the food was delivered very soon after it was ordered. It was hot so the first drinks were finished quickly. The waiter must have had the idea that he'd asked us about drinks enough because we didn't see him until he wanted to be paid. The place was about half full, but there were quite a few parents, because there were quite a few children on the playing equipment. There were two tables near us who must have needed new batteries for their hearing aids because they were literally shouting at each other across the table. I don't mean that one family was shouting at the other, I mean that the members of each of the two families were shouting at the top of their lungs at their own family, and not angrily. It was difficult and somewhat unpleasant to try to have a conversation ourselves. If there was a manager there thay had hidden themselves in the back office somewhere but they were quite definitely not on the floor. You have been a family favourite so long and I was disappointed last week Friday. I made a booking for 2 people the day before. My booking was taken and I have a full 1minute call to prove it.

Your host was nice enough to ask for assistance from someone else but when that member of staff arrived, things turned soar. I was told “ No there’s no way you could’ve made a booking, we took zero bookings yesterday” So I pulled out my phone. Only to be told that there is a booking for Natasha but for 6 people. My next question is “You have a booking for 6 people but don’t have a booking for my husband and I yet you said you didn’t take any booking s yesterday”

The person / waiter who assisted the host then said the will go and check. I was okay until he returned to blatantly ignore us. I asked for feedback,he told me he is busy and called another client to be seated. Which is the usual busy Friday agenda at your restaurant.

I got frustrated and asked why would you go back and not provide feedback. I was told he was busy with someone else. So the money my husband and I were to spend for a celebration at your restaurant was clearly not good enough at this point.

We left and took our business elsewhere. Moral of the story, my experience of your service sucks right now and I’m appalled at they way we were treated.

We recently visited Papachinos to celebrate a very special birthday, and it was an absolute treat from start to finish.

The ambience was warm and inviting, with soft lighting and stunning Italian-themed décor that created a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. The subtle background music added to the charm without being overwhelming.

The food was exceptional. Everyone in our group was impressed by the deliciously prepared and beautifully presented Chicken Schnitzel, Basil Aglio Olio Pasta, Hamburger with chips, and Nachos. I ordered the Arrabiata, and every bite was fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavour. The generous portions made the meal even more satisfying.

The service was just as outstanding. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. He made excellent recommendations and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the meal.

The prices were reasonable given the exceptional quality and portion sizes, making it a fantastic dining experience without an unreasonable price tag.

The restaurant was also spotlessly clean, including the restrooms, which is always a great sign of attention to detail.
