A Hindu-friendly North Indian restaurant, take-away and supermarket nestled in the heart of suburbia!
In MY opinion (and everyone has a different palate) Swagat has the best lamb bunny chows in Johannesburg! Tasty, meaty and NO BONES! Most eateries (local-Indian and India-Indian owned) use (nasty) boney pieces of mutton that adds bulk to their bunnies with very little meat on them, resulting in an eating experience that is more of a fight with the food.
Swagat's bunnies are very different and a source of pleasure when dining on. Tasty, with the right amount of your (ordered) spiciness.
Swagat's food can only be appreciated by those who truly understand the multitude of spices and ingredients that go into creating authentic Indian cuisine. If you believe that hurdee in water with salt and pepper is what constitutes a curry gravy, then move on. Swagat is not for you or your unsophisticated reviews.
Thank you Kevin for your friendliness and enlightening banter while we wait for our orders. And their adjacent supermarket offers a wide variety of India-origin spices, teas and namkeens! No need to travel to far-off areas for Indian food and...

Now, letâs talk about the foodâsimply incredible! We had the butter chicken and chicken curry, paired with butter and garlic naans, and every bite was bursting with flavour. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced, while the chicken curry had a beautiful depth of flavour that kept us coming back for more. The naan was soft, buttery, and the perfect companion to soak up all that deliciousness.
On top of the amazing food, the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic dining experience.
If youâre looking for a place that serves mouthwatering Indian cuisine with great service, I highly recommend Swagat Palm Court. Canât...
Read moreDo not order this food for take away. We ordered 2 bunny chows with lamb, 1 order of riata.
The bunny chows were soaked and soggy even though they were delivered priority (within 20 minutes from pick up). One was half the size of the other. 5 Small pieces of lamb, dry. I can only think they cook the lamb separately and sauce as needed, or someone ordered and cancelled and we got their old order. No taste of the Indian spices you would expect with any type of curry. So much sauce that it disintegrates the bunny chow. No difference between mild and hot.
Riata was sour. Not because of the ingredients, but because it was off.
I am super disappointed that I paid almost R500...
