How the mighty have fallen. For years this place had in my opinion the best mutton roti in Durban. We travelled from far to be there, making a huge effort to get there in the pouring rain as we have moved away from Durban. I have brought friends and family here countless times and always enjoyed the food, but this time it felt like a completely different restaurant.
The place was half empty, the staff seemed uninterested, and the manager did not care that the food was not fresh, no matter how many times she said it was. Thank you also to the GM for not giving a damn to come and speak to us from his very important role.
We ordered the mutton roti and boneless mutton bunny. Both were very overpriced at R210 for a roti and R169 for a bunny. The meat was dry on the inside, the roti was hard as if it had been left out or frozen, and the sauce was watery as though it had been frozen and reheated. The potato crumbled and tasted like reheated chips.
We shared the roti which came as two small rotis side by side (which they call the large). I had two bites and stopped, and my partner ate a bit more before calling it a day. We tried to get the attention of the staff and manager but they were not interested. When we finally stood up to leave, they gave us attention only to quote their “you ate more than 80%” policy and insisted the food was made fresh. Yes, fresh when cooked, then frozen.
I hate writing long reviews like this, but I was up all night on the toilet from the so-called fresh food.
What an expensive waste. Rather go buy a roti at the local garage, at least you will get...
Read moreWent to the restaurant after such a long time with family. Very disappointed. Service was terrible. We weren't served when we sat down. After 15 minutes or so I had to go find a waiter myself. Waiter took drinks and food order. Drinks came after such a long time. Food took so long but the waiter didn't even come to tell us that it will be done soon or not. I had to wake up again and ask someone about our food.
Regarding the food, we ordered a couple of bunnies. A prawn chutney and butter Naan and mutton curry and rice. The prawn chutney tasted very bitter. Had not much flavor at all. The butter Naan was the size of my hand with no butter on it and it was terribly dry. The mutton curry portion for R120 was just 4 small pieces of meat. I spoke to the manager and told her that there's more curry and meat in the bunny than there is in the bowl of curry. Even told her about the Naan. She just said that's how it is. She wasn't very concerned at all. Although the bunny was cheaper, it had more portion of curry which does not make sense. I had to take the bunny instead. I think the manager could of been a little more accommodating. The mutton curry is not like other places. It is very bland even though the colour looks dark. I would not recommend this restaurant and...
Read moreWe have been to Capsicum restaurant on a few occasions, and the wait is always long when you dine in. Can take anything from 30mins to 45mins before you receive your food. I have never complained previously, due to food being good. Today was just not acceptable, we arrived before the rush, just before 12, was seated in bar area as restaurant was full. We ordered drinks which was on time, at 12h30, we checked with waitress, said there was backlog in kitchen, will be another 7mins, 12h45, still nothing, no feedback from waitress until we followed up on order. Eventually at 13h10, no food, we had to leave, paid for drinks and gave feedback to floor manager. For food that is already prepared, this waiting time is just ridiculous. I would understand if we ordered from the grill, but we ordered the standard curries with rice/roti. A restaurant that can seat up to 200 patrons, should really look at their system in the kitchen, as this is where it seems the delays occur. Clearly the owners have no passion for this business, as its been years that people complain about the waiting period, however no changes have been implemented! Very disappointing service, and sadly we will not be returning to this...
