Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate — Restaurant in Stellenbosch Local Municipality

Rooms are lovely, clean, crisp and spacious. King size beds good linen. We had the balcony suite with a view of the pool and courtyard and some mountains very peaceful. This is the best feature of this hotel, are the rooms and the friendly staff. Hence the 2 stars. If you a golf lover, beautifully manicured lawns and and golf course. You can pay for a private lesson from a golf coach also. And there is a small pro shop with golf basics available. That's where it ends. The advertising is false advertising, on their website you see a fancy gourmet dining restaurant with a top chef, chez shiraz... There is none of this. The restaurant is old, and it's burgers and pizzas and steaks. Service was very friendly, however they were having a private function on the one side so diners were told to wait between 30-45 mins for their orders as the kitchen was too busy. As it was our first night there and we came from work hungry we asked could we have a cheese plate in the interim. Cheese plate arrived R93 for two pieces of cheese, a tiny dollop of goats cheese and 3 slices of cameberet few biscuits, Pic attached. No butter, no preserves as advertised on the menu. We had to ask for this since it was really dry. Some strawberry jam from a tin, hard butter arrived. Alittle bit of grated gouda would have been better than cold hard camberet. Main course steak and pizza, steak prepared well, juicy and tender, the pizza horrible, had one slice and ate the avo off it rather a Margherita, how do u get this wrong, cheese rubbery, no flavor no salt, tried to spruce it up with some tobasco but then didn't even work. Restaurant a no go for any sort of wholesome meal. Complete false advertising on their website, secondly as per the website there is a spa... This does not exist... Thirdly golf and Wine Estate... There is no wine tasting or wine rooms... The level of their "spa" is a lady that comes to your room with a fold out massage bed and charges 924 for a back of body massage. Warms some oil in your microwave and plays music from a speaker in your lounge area. How they do the facials one can only wonder. I booked 2 months in advance and was liasing via email with them mentioned numerous times it was my hubby birthday hence I am coming there, no one wished him at all, not even a handwritten note in the room like some hotels do for their guests, nothing to make u feel special or that they took note of you as a guest. Oh if you stay on the top floor, only two floors, carry all your luggage yourself, there are no lifts and no one to assist you with this, reception sits and watches you lug and struggle with your bags back and forth numerous times. If you play golf want a nice play to sleep then yes visit this place. I will not recommend this to anyone else, as there is nothing to else to do here literally, and I will not be back. While I had no issue with the room and the breakfast offered as part of the deal was very good I was totally irritated with the establishment before I arrived. On making my reservation I requested that I be able to check in a little earlier (check in was only at 3 pm!) as I had to be at a wedding nearby that was starting at 3. All I wanted was the room for an hour before to give me time to change and prepare for what was a formal occasion. The hotel did not even both to respond to the request which was made weeks before and when received my confirmation a few days before check in I saw that they had just ignored the request. I contacted them and they told me that I would need to pay a further R750 should I want to check in early! They said they would try and accommodate me to check in at 13.30. Needless to say I flatly refused this daylight robbery! The room was R2 410 per night for a check in a 3 pm and check out by 10 am. Caclulate this and it is R120.50 (including breakfast) an hour yet they wanted R500 an hour just for me to check in a little earlier to dress! They have the excuse of if they can get the room cleaned in time! For heavens sake how difficult is it to have your staff clean a couple of rooms first if you know you need them sooner? Also, are they paying their cleaning staff more for just doing their normal job and cleaning one room sooner than others? I doubt it! They did let me in a little sooner and at no charge which I would always have refused anyway but what was very obvious was that the hotel was extremely quiet and not busy at all so what was all the fuss about? Another attempt at conning for an extra few bucks? All quite sad really as the room was nice enough and the breakfast was good. The staff in the reception were friendly however the overall "vibe" on checking in is very formal, the staff in the dining room were very pleasant...

We had our wedding at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate on the 4th of September 2021, and I would like to thank everybody for the time and effort put in to make our day as special as can be, firstly BB Bernado was exceptionally outstanding with the whole process, the decoration and the set up of the Garden Gazebo area was done amazing and everything was really awesome the whole event through,  from the food to how it was organised. Lisa and BB assisted our guest with their needs and made sure that everybody was happy all the time, very professional. Lisa is an outstanding person who deserves a 10/10 for her professional and awesome work ethic, she has also ensured that the whole process of our wedding runs smoothly, I am pretty sure that there were things on the agenda that we didn't pay for that were still provided to us. The waiters at the event were very helpful, a special thanks to Loretta as well, this lasy kept asking our guests if they are okay, and checked up on them all the time, it came to a point that when a guest wanted something they only asked for Loretta :). How can I forget Andy, the waiter who assisted Celest and I, this man is awesome and we respect him so much that he is the reason Celest and I decided that Devonvale would be our new spot for date night.
