I recently celebrated my birthday with my family (10 people) at what was advertised as a "Sunday Buffet." However, it was far from the experience we expected, and certainly not worth the R425 per person.
To start with, the location itself was lovely, catering to all age groups with various activities to keep everyone entertained. Unfortunately, the buffet was a major disappointment.
The so-called "starter" consisted of a single large slice of baked bread, a flavorless paté, and two jams, along with a soup. The bread slice was so large that it took up the entire side plate, leaving no room for the jam or paté unless you put it directly on the bread. The butter was also on the table, far from the bread. And, to top it off, you were expected to have this one slice of bread alongside your soup as well. If you wanted more, you were told that there was no food left. How is that a buffet?
The main course was even more disheartening. The staff served the food, and for prawns, we each got only three, while the calamari strips were also limited to just three per person. When asking for more, you were met with blank stares, and you were still told that the food was finished. Again, this is not what I would call a buffet. The pumpkin fritters were overly oily and lacked flavor.
Dessert was equally underwhelming—one dry koeksister and a cup of coffee. The coffee was pleasant, but honestly, for R425, a single dry koeksister doesn't even come close to justifying the cost.
Additionally, I noticed that the reviews on the website are overwhelmingly positive, which I find very suspect. Today, there were numerous complaints from other patrons about the lack of food, so why is this being misrepresented? It feels misleading to advertise something as a buffet when it’s clearly not.
I would strongly recommend the restaurant revisit the meaning of "buffet" because what was offered today certainly wasn't it. I left feeling disappointed and wished I had chosen to spend my birthday—and money—elsewhere. If you're looking for a true buffet experience,...
Read moreThis message is to the Management, since your super friendly staff put up with the pretty bad accomodation experience. It’s a beautiful location and a great food experience for extra (fish and seafood buffet) but the accommodation was highly disappointing.
You pay R950 a night to find no one on your arrival, keys got handed over by staff on site after we have been walking around being lost, we received no information/introduction speech about breakfast times or activities around ?
The rooms were very ... how to say ? Minimalist :) 4 blank wall with little to zero decoration. It says self-catering but all we could find was a kettle and two small cups of coffee (with only one spoon!). There was no mini fridge, no wine glasses or even glasses to drink water out of? We were also unsure if we could even drink water out of the tap since there were no note and also no glasses or bottles of water?
We had a pretty rough night since the wall of the rooms are so thin that we could hear the conversations of our neighbors in details and the outside bright light of our stoep was on through the night with no possibility to switch it off since no reachable switcher? With no surprise mosquitos also joined the party. Don’t get me wrong :) I understand that closer to a salt pan there will be mosquitos and we chose do be surrounded with Nature, I just think a place like this should take actions accordingly with at least a mosquito net or even mosquitos repealent products in the room.
My and my partner are both from the Hospitality background and all we can agree on our way back is that, sadly the Management/ownership really don’t put any heart in their place and clients.
Staff was amazing and friendly so yay to them.
PS: This is my very first negative feedback written on Google I just felt it is very...
Read moreThe moment my now-husband and I stepped foot at Strandkombuis, we knew that this was our dream wedding venue. The location, the staff, the atmosphere and the food was all round phenomenal. Ellie made us feel so welcome, relaxed and excited about such a big moment in our lives, she won us over completely upon meeting her - a real west coast lady (love it)! It was such a different experience that I felt to other venues which make you feel like "just another couple". After booking our date, we had most contact with Betti (the coordinator) whom I cannot boast about enough! Betti is AMAZING - she is so friendly, kind, and attentive. We subsequently emigrated, and planning a wedding abroad can be super difficult but Betti always made me feel so assured and answered every question I had so promptly and in detail. Honestly, Betti made me feel like we were the only wedding they had (even though I know they have many weddings every week) but this just shows how attentive she was and brilliant she is at her job. This is all a bride can ask for. On our wedding day, Betti and Ellie were, as expected, phenomenal at ensuring everything went to plan and anything we needed would be catered to. Always with a smile, a lekker weskus chilled aura, and all-round positive vibes. Our guests couldn't express enough how much they loved the food, the venue and that it was the best wedding they've ever been to! For us... it couldn't have been anymore of a dream day. Just incredible, in every aspect. THANK YOU Strandkombuis (including those members of staff we didn't mention - you are all amazing) for giving us our dream wedding. Strandkombuis will always feel like family to us. Thank you thank you thank you. Lauren and...
