What brought us here was to celebrate with a birthday lunch for my wife. This is our first visit here. The “Wilde Vy” restaurant is located on the “Signal-Gun Winery. It’s As always to visit on a wine estate is a unique experience as you drive up to the very big parking area you pass the vineyard’s. From the parking area it is a upward walk to the restaurant which is housed in a beautiful house which is built on the slopes of the hill. The garden is splendid and well maintained with seating under large umbrellas as you approach the entrance you see another outside seating area and also a glass enclosure veranda which allows you to have a view of the picturesque landscape which is Durbanville down below. Once inside on your way to be seated you pass a fully equipped bar where sitting down is allowed. Here there is another glass enclosure which they refer to as the “benches” and sure-lii an area you can request to have a private function. The menu-cards are loaded with some fancy dishes. One will visit here many times to savour all the delicious dishes. This was out first visit and will certainly not be our last. The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable compared to similar establishments. We had impeccable service and had a lovely chat with the manager who made sure we were happy all night and took the time to tell us a little bit about the restaurant, the way the specials are chosen and different special nights they do host or will be hosting. (Thursday date night sounds lovely!)
We had the special of glazed beef cheek, glazed carrot, mash and tenderstem as recommended by our waiter, Andre. The dish was delicious and all the elements perfectly complimented one another. The beef was tender as can be and the portions were very generous. For dessert I highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding!
The interior is beautiful and high end, with lovely soft lighting to set a...

I really wanted to enjoy my experience here, but unfortunately, I left feeling quite frustrated and unwelcome. We arrived for breakfast with a reservation, only to be told the restaurant was fully booked — even though the place was almost completely empty when we walked in.
We were seated right by the door, and it was freezing outside. When we asked if we could move to a table near the fireplace, we were told those tables were reserved. It just didn’t make sense considering how many open tables there were, and it felt like our comfort wasn’t a priority at all.
What’s even more disappointing is that this isn’t the first time it’s happened. I’m starting to wonder if the seating arrangements are based on more than just bookings — and not in a good way.
I don’t say this lightly, but the way we were treated didn’t sit right with me, and I don’t think I’ll be coming back...
