Sweet Oak — Restaurant in Wonju-si

This is the best BBQ in Korea. I've been to places in Seoul and Daegu but none compare. It is AUTHENTIC American BBQ. If you are going to complain about this place it is because you are clueless about real bbq from the states. Or...you think that fusion garbage you find through out the peninsula for cheap prices is some comparison to this. It's not. Period. The staff is great and they know what they are doing. The drink selection is awesome and the decor is very nice and cosy including a woodstove. As a southern American, life in the ROK can be hard without BBQ. I lived in constant fear that I would never taste Gods greatest gift again. The pain was lifted from my body with the discovery of Sweet Oak in Wonju. The owner knows what he is doing. The chicken is amazingly tender and the brisket has that lovely pink smoke ring that is coveted by serious BBQ goers. I highly recommend making the trip, from anywhere in Korea. Excellent barbecue in a hip atmosphere. The taste is authentic but the presentation is upgraded and I love the extra sides and pickles. Its definitely a destination restaurant which probably requires a long nap before a return trip. I would get the ribs and possibly the platter but most of that I ended up taking home as take out.
