Don’t let the “5 STAR” reviews fool you. The prices do not match the menu or quality. I don’t know how this place has so many good reviews, unless we are the only ones to have had a very, very bad experience.
If you are looking for an expensive restaurant, with below average food, in the middle of nowhere and that sneakily charges you extra for 3 small bread rolls, then you will be happy here. If this doesn’t sound like a place you’d like to throw your money away please read on...
This is a expensive restaurant that does not deliver on taste, service or location. The prices they charge here are near enough if not on the same level as some fine dining restaurants in the island and I honestly have no idea why.
9 - 16 euros for small starters with mediocre taste. 10 - 24+ euros for basic mains. They don’t come with potatoes, vegetables and for some dishes even sauces. You have to pay for EVERYTHING that would normally be included in a meal! 3 euros if you want anything added with your food. The dishes are plain and quite frankly mediocre, with nothing special about them except their eye watering prices. I am still trying to figure out what they’re charging you so much for...
When you arrive they give you 3 bread rolls with a smidge of butter. Which they don’t tell you costs 2.5 euros if you eat it. It’s another great quality of theirs, sneak little extras where you can. I have been to many restaurants and very few charge for bread and a teaspoon of butter!
The waiter does not speak very good English at all. Instead of telling me he didn’t understand what I wanted to order he ordered something completely different to what I asked. He charged us 10 euros for 1 chicken breast grilled (no seasoning, no sauce, just one cauliflower and two Cherry tomatoes on the side).
In the end we payed €49 for two mains, two starters and 2 diet cokes. The food was below average, service was a joke. The waiter/owner was really trying hard to up-sell dishes so that we would spend more money, which is not great if you’re just trying to chill and order what you want.
I would definitely say save your money or go somewhere else if you’re looking for a expensive place to eat. There are much much better places. The waiter asked me to take pictures as it’s very important for trip advisor, so luckily I took his advice and here is...
Read moreThis was one of the strangest restaurants that I've ever been to. We arrived at 7.30 to a restaurant with one other couple there, being questioned aggressively as to their enjoyment of the food by the owner / waiter, who was wielding a noisy hosting trolley around the restaurant.
Others' accounts of pushy service are accurate. While perusing the menu, the waiter / owner made some unusually insistent recommendations (which he called 'questions' rather than 'suggestions') including an off-menu (unpriced) starter. We declined the various suggestions and ordered grilled fish (salmon and sole). The food took about 40 minutes to arrive. Although we were brought some bread, which may have stemmed the hunger, having read other reviews in the meantime, it became clear that we would have been charged for had we kept it, so we (politely) declined.
During our wait, the sounds and smells coming from the (open) kitchen became somewhat concerning. We were the only people in the restaurant at this point (8pm)- a warning sign we should not have ignored. According to the owner/waiter, more people would be along later. They were no others there by the time we left. We listened to the sound of bubbling fat and began to smell ourselves of bubbling fat for about 15 minutes before the food was served. Very few things take that long to fry, and, as above, the fish should have been grilled, not fried. The sole was the greasiest piece of food I have ever seen (or touched). I would estimate that it contained half of its weight in oil and looked like it had dried out in the sun for several days. The owner/waiter denied that the fish had been fried. He then showed me a hot plate covered with oil and assured me that the fish bad been grilled. A hot surface and oil is what is used to fry food; not to grill it. The mixed vegetables looked very sad. They seemed to have been frozen and microwaved. I say that because of their soggy appearance and the sound of the microwave pinging. Having not eaten any food, I offered to pay for the drinks we had had. That offer was accepted. In the circumstances, I, unsurprisingly, was not asked to leave a review, as others report below. I would strong recommending avoiding this restaurant.
I do wonder how genuine at least some of the five-star reviews are, given...
Read moreI really regret having to give a poor review to this place, especially when the owner was so kind and welcoming. We have had the luck of travelling half the globe: fancy and expensive places are no more appealing to us. Authentic little cozy places and homemade cooking is what we look for. So we spotted this place. Out of the way of fancy "sea view" restaurants, on a random road, negligible and not glamorous at all. Trust me, you would never stop there if you were just passing by.
The place was almost empty on a friday evening, and I couldn't understand why. Food was decent. Nothing crazy, but at least prepared with care and love. Probably homemade, (although definitely lacking in expertise). Service was amazing. The owner puts you at ease and always smiles.
Food was nothing amazing, but the atmosphere would let you close an eye and enjoy the time.
But then the bill.....
Let me tell you.... I'm used to Michelin stars and I'm used to a random woman cooking in the middle of the indian sea. I coundn't care less about the bill / price. There's no way what we ate was worth around 80 euros PER PERSON in such a place and for the food we ate. I suddenly and sadly understood why the place was empty, except for other 2 tables (one french, one english. Not surprisingly, no locals.)
High expectations, but sadly disappointed. Sad for the owner who was willing to go the extra mile.
Not recommended. Unfortunately the restaurant is eithet a mere well disguised trap for tourists or, most likely, they have no idea of what they are doing. This time, I'd rather suggest dining in a fancy sea...
