Happy Garden — Restaurant in Arboleas

I have lived local for many years but never eaten here although this was my 3rd time of booking. The first time years ago it was chaotic when we arrived so we gave our reasons and departed. Last year we booked again and when we arrived they had arranged the tables in benches and pushed me into the far corner where everyone would have had to stand up if and when I wanted to leave the table. Tonight we had booked again. Again it was chaotic. They had not reserved a table as asked for. We were put on a table on the corner where they dump glasses and cutlery not needed. No table cloth, no napkins, nothing. It stayed this way for 20 mins before we were asked if we wanted to drink. Still the table was not cleared or dressed. We had to chase them to order food. We arrived at 6.50pm and the starter arrived at 7.55pm. when the starter arrived they had still not dressed the table so the food stood while the waiter, who looked like he didn't want to be there, went away to find plates and cutlery, still no table cloth. The food was beautiful, tasty and if honest too generous but guess that's better than the other way. We had noticed that others arriving after us were attended to before us, it was like we were in the corner and forgotten. So will I go again? No, service is part of the experience, and for the 3rd time it was worse than poor and embarrassed us in front of our friends. We told the management our feelings but still left a tip as it's not the waiters fault if they don't have enough staff to cope. Such a shame as the food...

How this place has changed. Something completely different and not for the better. The positives : The beer is cheap and the staff are friendly . The negatives everything else; I'm sorry to say the food was so bad what a change from our previous visits. Ribs in a BBQ sauce. 5 overcooked ribs with very little meat on them covered in a thick gooey brown sauce very obviously from a bottle served with a handful of frozen packet chips on a wooden platter part of which I may have eaten and wouldn't have noticed the difference. Prawn crackers were cold could have been from a packet and sweet chillie sauce from bottles. The exact same sauce that was used to cover the sweet and sour chicken my wife had the same chicken batch cooked and used in the Teriyaki chicken with bottled teriyaki sauce for my daughter. Crispy duck oh it was crispy in a bottled plum sauce with bits of garnish flung in. But the worst was Bimbimbap with curried chinese chicken. Absolutely shocking. Again boiled to death chicken flung in bean sprouts boiled rice and chopped vegetables and this horrible packet curry sauce poured over it weighed about 2 pounds in a sizzling bowl. Honestly it was rubbish. I'm sorry but there's a theme here. Nothing is fresh and it's all bottled sauces which is why your served so quickly. Sorry happy garden you need...

I don't know what has happened to this place. It used to be our go to Chinese restaurant. Last night I was with a Group of 4 (3 starters 4 main courses) we waited over an hour for our starters, 2 were delivered and eaten before the 3rd one was delivered. All 4 mains were delivered separately with a significant gap between delivery. An obviously new waiter did not know the table numbers and regularly to the wrong order to the wrong table. The spicy dish not as tangy as expected. Very disappointed. It will be a while before we go back.

Went back today (29th March), just my wife and I. There was just one other couple dining when we arrived. We ordered just 1 starter that took nearly 15 minutes to arrive, and the portion was smaller than previously. Our mains arrived separately with my wife having asked what the problem was.
