This was a great choice for us as we fancied relaxing by a pool and not doing much.||The bedroom was well laid out with a lovely country view, excellent air con and a good size bathroom.||The pool area had plenty of shade and lovely gentle steps into the water which was deliciously warm. The courtyard had plenty of parasols and a shaded verandah.||There is a roof terrace also which was a lovely place to enjoy a drink and the view of night time Arcos before bed.||The restaurant has good air con at lunchtime and the views are great.||For the evening the courtyard was a cool place to eat.||It was difficult to get served drinks out of hours and a bell should be considered to be left on the bar to call a member of staff as the building is large and the team combine the jobs of housekeeping, waitering and cooking so could be anywhere in the building. The manager/owner puts a huge amount of effort in to ensure everything is good for his guests and hopefully his staff can support him more by tidying away cigarette butts and empty glasses which if he was not around stayed where they were left.||There is no breakfast menu which makes if difficult to order food, we ended up being charged more than we expected. But, we will know for next time as we will certainly return for another summer visit.||Very good value for a hotel with a decent restaurant and...
Read moreWe booked initially for a night as we are travelling through France and Spain to Portugal. We are nearly at the end of a month's road trip and found this place a delight. So much so we elected to extend to two nights.||||I would describe the accommodation as a restaurant with rooms. However the rooms are, in our opinion, beautifully authentic, spacious and with good amenities. Although not much English is spoken here the welcome is warm from all the staff and we felt well looked after during our stay.||||Arcos de la Frontera is a pretty hill top village and this accommodation is just outside. It is a fair walk into town and not really practicable for evening jaunts. This is not necessary however as the restaurant is fabulous. We had two very good quality meals including dishes such as octopus, turbot, carpaccio of prawn and roast suckling pig. Prices are reasonable and the wine is good. The restaurant has a great ambience and was full on both nights (Friday and Saturday).||||Breakfast is simple but after last night's dinner this is just fine. WIFI is not readily available in the rooms and only the restaurant has a good signal.||||It may not be everyone's choice for accommodation as the restaurant is indeed the main event. We however...
Read moreWe chose this accommodation for its location and looking for an authentic Spanish place. We loved the cleanliness, the decor, the interior court, the spectacular view of the village and the fact that there was a restaurant and a pool. What we did not like was the cold attitude of the owners and staff. I understand there was a language barrier, but there are other ways to show hospitality. My feeling was that they did not like foreigners. One of the owners said out loud "Shut up!" when my husband was talking to a waiter who actually spoke English, not sure whom he wanted silent, but I found that unimaginably rude. The room was nicely decorated, very clean, with plenty of towels. The bed was, however a little bit small for a double bed. The food at the restaurant was average, I found it a little pricy for the portion sizes offered. At check out in the morning they did not seem ready for breakfast, though it was after 9 AM, but cooked some food for us - again kinda pricy. Overall, my feeling is that La Posada del Duende is a lovely place to come for lunch or dinner if you are Spanish. They still need to work on their attitude towards people that don't speak...
