El Patio de Chus — Restaurant in Arenas de San Pedro

Words cannot do justice to the care and love with which the people here run this place. From the moment you step in, you sense it: this is not just a restaurant, it is a labor of care. The flavors are absolutely indescribable. Born of the simplest ingredients, yet brought together with such simple mastery that you’re left wondering how something so humble can taste so extraordinary. There’s something about the quality of the ingredients, from the simple potatoes all the way up, that gives them an outstanding taste.-

The menu is a treasure trove of traditional Spanish comfort food. The Huevos con Pisto (eggs with a rustic ratatouille of peppers, onions, zucchini, and tomatoes) arrive hearty and full of soul, the perfect harmony of earthy vegetables crowned with perfectly cooked eggs. The Salmorejo (a thick, velvety Andalusian tomato soup, richer and creamier than gazpacho) is smooth, refreshing, and deeply satisfying: A dish that feels both cooling and indulgent at the same time. And then there is the Sopa Castellana (Castilian garlic soup with bread, paprika, and poached egg), a true classic of Spanish cuisine that here becomes a warm embrace in a bowl, rustic and powerful in flavor, yet soothing and nourishing. There must be something to the soil, or the water, or the ingredients here at play.-

Every dish reflects what the small sign outside already tells you: “the secret to what we do is love and care.” And indeed, it shows. It shines in the food, it beams in the service, it lingers in the atmosphere.-

The staff could not be more welcoming. Genuinely friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and clearly proud of what they serve. The food itself is simple, fair, and honest, but the taste, once again, cannot be adequately put into words. This is cooking that nourishes both body and soul.-

One piece of advice: while reservations are not strictly mandatory, they are an absolute must. The reputation of this place is well-earned, and the seats do fill quickly. Planning ahead ensures you won’t miss out on the experience.-

I have toured the country, and several others, and eaten at extremely fancy restaurants. That, this is not. What "El Patio de Chus" is, however, is something equally, if not more, memorable: Authentic, heartfelt, and awe-inspiring in its own way. The pictures from generations past that adorn the walls, speak to this.-

If you are anywhere within 500 square kilometers of this place, you cannot — I repeat, you absolutely cannot — afford to miss it.-

Quite an experience. Thoroughly and totally recommended. You will be surprised.-

Intentamos comer el viernes, digo intentamos por que nos fuimos a otro sitio. Nada más llegar, nos hicieron un lío con la desorganización de los propios camareros, el chico nos mandó a una señora y la señora al chico, nadie nos cogía nota hasta que por fin pedimos mesa para comer. Mientras esperabamos a la hora, pedimos algo para tomar a la mujer que pasó totalmente de nosotros, más tarde apareció otra mujer que si nos atendió. Todo esto mientras una de las camareras se encontraba sentada en una de las mesas comiendo patatas fritas y tomándose una cocacola mientras limpiaba y ordenaba los cubiertos, al menos tenía el detalle de quitarse las migas de las patatas de las manos en el mismo paño donde se limpiaba las manos después de tocarse la nariz. Menos mal que no comí con esos cubiertos. Después de apuntarnos una mesa a la 13:30, nos sentaron veinte minutos más tarde y seguimos esperando a que alguien nos atendiera. Finalmente nos fuimos. No parece un sitio donde los trabajadores estén preparadas para manejar un restaurante ni mucho menos para afrontar críticas. Tienen una desorganización que no sé como puede seguir abierto. Y el chico, como bien se observa en las otras malas reseñas, tienen razón, tiene un comportamiento bastante inadecuado para trabajar de cara al público. Más tarde, el chico nos comentó de mala manera que la cocina no abría hasta las 14:00 (dato que no nos ofreció nadie antes) y cuando nos dijeron eso, la mujer que pasó de nosotros al principio se rió en nuestra cara diciendo: Ah, ¿no lo he dicho? De cachondeo. Más tarde comimos en otro sitio donde nos atendieron mejor, fueron más agradables nada más entrar y no cobraron el IVA a parte, cosa que este lugar SI HACE y es ILEGAL (lo podéis ver en las reseñas de las personas que han subido su ticket). No vamos a volver ni vamos a recomendar este...

Bastante mal. Fuimos dos días: el primero fue incómodo pedir dos veces una botella de agua, ya que si pides agua con el menú solo dan la misma botella que si la pide uno. El segundo día fuimos a las 12:30 y muy amablemente dijeron que hasta las 13:30 no dan menú. Dimos una vuelta y fuimos a las 13:10 a que nos fueran sentando y tomar algo para hacer tiempo hasta la hora. Tenían mesas libres pero no nos sentaron hasta las 13:25. A las 13:50 seguíamos esperando a que nos atendieran. Cuando fui a quejarme me dijeron que es que no daban menú en las mesas del fondo y que estaban esperando a que se liberase una más cercana para cambiarnos y que por eso aún no nos habían atendido. Podrían haberlo dicho antes, ya hacían 50’ desde que llegamos e íbamos con un bebé de 3 meses. Todo (m)padre sabrá que el tiempo que aguanta un bebé es limitado. Al quejarnos acabaron ofreciendo una cercana que era para 4 pero no se les había ocurrido separarla en dos. Al final nos fuimos a otro sitio y a la vuelta había comensales comiendo menú en la mesa del fondo en la que “no se sirven menús”. Somos una pareja amable que no entiende en qué momento una camarera parece tenernos manía y dejarnos así de lado. Nos ha hecho sentir bastante mal. No lo recomiendo :( Añado la cronología de Google para demostrar que de verdad estuvimos ahí todo ese rato ya que me acusan de mentir. Si veis mi perfil llevo cientos de reseñas, aceptar una mala crítica sobre todo cuando es completamente cierta es de buenos...
