Itsaslur — Restaurant in Arrasate / Mondragón

This is a scam restaurant. We came upon this restaurant while walking around Arrásate on a Sunday. Unfortunately we went in without looking at any previous reviews and yes we were scammed also. The lady had no English and our Spanish is very limited so we thought she was being extra patient and helpful in ordering. We had asked her for a menu but there are none available. We ordered a bottle of white wine. We got 10 grilled gambas for starter to share which were nice. Then we were served a piece of cod each in a yellow sauce. No vegetables or potatoes just cod. Then a small basket of 5 pieces of bread was left on the table. Postre was a slice of cheesecake to share and I had a coffee. Up to this point we were happy with the food and the service even if she was a bit strong minded and we felt bullied into what she wanted us to order. We then asked for the bill. I saw the bill on the table before my husband and I was shocked but not as shocked as him. He thought he was reading it incorrectly so he had to get his glasses. €146.80 for 10 gambas, two pieces of cod, one cheesecake, one coffee and a bottle of wine. Outrageous. The 10 gambas were €36 and the cod was €38 each. We did not argue with her as our Spanish is not good enough and we were not going to win with her. We should have asked for prices before we ordered but we honestly thought it would be average pricing for this area. Hopefully you will have read this review BEFORE you enter this restaurant and my advice is DO NOT GO IN. Gogoz joan ginen, baina etsigarrixe bueltau. Hemen ez dago kartarik ez eta preziorik ikusgai: ahoz esaten dabe danak, eta horrek ez dau konfiantzarik emon. Emakumeak langostinoak gomendau euskuzen, txuletoi bat jango genduala kontuan hartuta (1,5 kg ingurukoa).

Amaieran, langostinoengatik 48€, eta azalpenik barik. Galdetutean, esan euskuen bi rrazio zirala, bakoitzian 6 pieza. Prezixue gehixegixekua, eta okerrena aurretik ez jakitia. Txuleta, ondo eginda eta zapore ona, bai, baina osoa ekarri euskuen, ez filetatuta, eta zatiak egiteko burruka ederra. Hori bai, aizto batzuk beldurrezko pelikuletakoak zirala. Prezixue 90 €/kg izanda, gitxienez, prest ekarri beharko leukie. Eta bai, txupituek be kobratuta. Dana gainera, maindirik bako mahaian eta euli artean. Ez dau merezi.

Fuimos con ganas, salimos decepcionados. En este restaurante no hay carta escrita ni precios a la vista: todo es cantado, lo que ya de entrada genera inseguridad. La señora nos sugirió langostinos en vez de pulpo, teniendo en cuenta que después comeríamos una chuleta de aproximadamente 1,5 kg.

Sorpresa final: los langostinos, 48€, sin más explicaciones. Al reclamar, nos dicen que eran dos raciones de 6 unidades cada una. Precio excesivo, y lo peor es no saberlo de antemano. La chuleta, de sabor correcto, pero nos la sirvieron entera, sin filetear, lo que dificultó bastante el corte, aunque eso sí, con cuchillos que parecían sacados de una película de terror. A 90 €/kg, al menos podrían presentarla lista para comer. Hasta los chupitos cobrados. Y todo esto, en una mesa sin mantel, llena de moscas.

Very simple dishes and good food, overpriced though. A plate of 6 asparagus with oil and lemon: 24 euros, a plate of 7 mini pork ribs with salt: 24 euros. Plus wine: 56 euros (the price you spend for a very good Fiorentina steak and a very good glass of wine in the historical center of Florence). The waiter or owner didn’t show me the menu and didn’t declare the price upfront. Tonight was the only night I was treated (or tricked) like a foreigner in this great town!...
